A total of 90 children from Tomares, aged between 6 and 13, have been participating since July 7 in the Summer Camp organised by the Rocío Brotherhood in the village of El Rocío, where they live together for five days.
The Rocío Brotherhood of Tomares has once again launched its traditional Summer Camp, an event that this year brings together 90 children from the municipality in the village of El Rocío. The youngsters, aged between 6 and 13, arrived on July 7 and will stay until this Saturday, the 11th, thus completing five days of camaraderie at the Blanca Paloma facilities.
The initiative, one of the most established summer activities for the brotherhood, aims to promote values such as friendship, respect, and community living through a programme that combines games, learning, and outdoor activities. The participants sleep and spend most of their time in the facilities that the brotherhood has in the village, an environment that is familiar and emotionally significant for many.
An experience that grows each year
The Summer Camp is not a new concept in Tomares. The Rocío Brotherhood has been organising this activity for years, which has become a reference point for families in the municipality. In this edition, participation has approached a hundred, a figure that demonstrates the deep-rooted nature of the initiative. María Toledo, special delegate for Major Festivals and Traditions of the Tomares City Council, and Juan Ramón Criado, the Brotherhood's Elder Brother, visited the children during their stay and accompanied them in the traditional presentation before the Queen of the Marshes at her hermitage.
The City Council has publicly congratulated the Brotherhood for the organisation and for making it possible for nearly a hundred children to enjoy different days away from routine and in a privileged natural setting. Camaraderie, learning, and personal growth are the pillars of this initiative, which each summer brings together children of different ages and backgrounds within the municipality.
A plan for the families of Tomares
For many families in Tomares, the Summer Camp represents a unique opportunity for their children to experience independence and socialisation in a controlled and safe environment. The children participate in workshops, cooperative games, and group activities, all under the supervision of monitors and volunteers from the brotherhood. The stay also includes moments of prayer and reflection, tailored to the age of the participants, reinforcing the educational and spiritual character of the proposal.
The fact that the activity takes place in the village of El Rocío, an emblematic place for the brotherhood, adds a symbolic and emotional value that the children and their families particularly appreciate. It is not just a summer camp, but an immersion in the traditions and community life that so many residents of Tomares experience throughout the year.
The Rocío Brotherhood of Tomares is already working on the next edition, intending to maintain and, if possible, expand the number of places for next summer. For now, the 90 children who have participated in this camp will return home on Saturday with their backpacks full of memories and, probably, a desire to return.
