La Rinconada Town Hall has begun the demolition of the old irrigation canal, a €50,000 project that completes the improvement of the roundabout at the entrance from Seville.
The Town Hall of La Rinconada, through the Public Infrastructure department, has initiated the demolition works of the old irrigation canal and the enhancement of the surroundings at the entrance to the urban area. This intervention, with a budget exceeding €50,000 and a one-month execution period, continues the improvement works carried out last February at the roundabout accessing from the capital of Seville.
The project includes the complete demolition of the canal, cleaning and clearing works, as well as the extension of land to improve both the appearance and functionality of this space, considered a strategic location for the municipality. The action aims to eliminate an obsolete infrastructure that, according to the City Council, posed a visual and functional barrier.
The councillor for Public Infrastructure, Rafael Reyes, accompanied by the delegate for Territorial Planning, Francisco Manuel Díez, recently visited the works to supervise the pace of execution. Reyes highlighted that “this intervention represents another step in the municipal strategy to dignify and modernise access to our municipality.”
“Following the improvement of the roundabout, we continue to act on this environment by removing a canal that had become obsolete and posed both a visual and functional barrier,” added the councillor. He also emphasised that “the goal is to provide a more organised, safe entrance that aligns with the image of La Rinconada, while preparing this space for future investments that the Town Hall has planned for the area.”
This action is part of a broader plan to renew access to the municipality. In February of this year, a first phase focused on the roundabout at the entrance from Seville was completed, which included the renewal of the space's image, improvement of landscaped areas, and reinforcement of road safety. The demolition of the canal represents the second phase of this project.
The residents of La Rinconada will see how the surroundings of the main entrance gain in width and order, eliminating an element that had fallen into disuse. The works, which will take place over the coming weeks, will affect traffic temporarily, although the Town Hall has assured that disruptions will be minimised.
With a cumulative investment exceeding €50,000 just in this phase, the City Council plans to continue with new improvements in the area, although the timelines and budget for future interventions have not yet been detailed. For now, the priority is to complete the demolition and enhancement to provide a more modern and functional image of the main access to La Rinconada.
