The City Council of Cádiz has allocated 24,000 euros to six associations that develop projects defending LGTBI rights. The 2026 call has prioritised awareness and support initiatives.
The Cádiz City Council has made public the final resolution of the grants aimed at non-profit entities working for equal treatment and non-discrimination of LGTBI individuals. In total, six organisations will receive 4,000 euros each to carry out their projects during the current year.
Funded projects and beneficiary entities
The call, initially endowed with 25,000 euros, was divided into two lines: one for projects (18,250 euros) and another for operational expenses (6,750 euros). As the latter was left unallocated, the remainder was used to increase the number of subsidised initiatives. In the first phase, four projects with the highest scores were selected: ‘We Are Diversity, Be You with Freedom’, from the Prevention and Inclusion Collective of Andalucía; ‘They Count’, from the Cádiz Abolitionist Association; ‘Transfeminist Support and Expression Network’, from AGHOIS LGTB Cádiz; and ‘Cádiz Against LGTBIfobia’, from Family Educational Support (AEFAM).
Subsequently, the remainder allowed for the inclusion of two more entities: the Triangle Foundation Andalucía, with the project ‘Cádiz for LGTBI Social Equality 2026’, and the Volunteer Platform of the Province of Cádiz, with ‘Cádiz in Network: Training in LGTBI Rights and Volunteering for Equal and Non-Discriminatory Citizenship’. All of them will receive the same amount: 4,000 euros.
Selection and evaluation criteria
The evaluation of the applications was carried out based on the technical quality of the initiatives, their social reach, the contribution of own resources, coordination with other administrations, local implementation, and prior experience. The Councillor for Equality, Inclusion Policies and LGTBI, Virginia Martín, highlighted that “the quality of the submitted projects demonstrates the strength of the Cádiz associative fabric and its commitment to promoting diversity”.
Martín emphasised that this resolution “represents a new step in the City Council of Cádiz's commitment to the real and effective equality of LGTBI individuals”. The grants, framed within the 2026 call, aim to support the grassroots work carried out by associations at the local level.
Local impact and next steps
The beneficiary entities must implement their projects throughout the year, with actions ranging from awareness in educational centres to support for trans individuals. For the residents of Cádiz, these initiatives translate into workshops, talks, and support resources that will be available at various points in the city. The City Council plans to monitor each project and assess its impact at the end of the year.
With this distribution, the City Council exhausts the budget allocated for the call, leaving a margin of 1,000 euros unallocated. The councillor has encouraged entities to continue submitting proposals in future editions.
