The Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena has presented the poster for the LXIV edition, which will take place on September 4 at the Manuel Mairena Auditorium. The competition honours the singer Aurora Vargas and adopts a festival format.

The Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena unveiled the official image of the LXIV National Cante Jondo Competition Antonio Mairena this Friday at Casa Orellana, an event that this year transforms into a grand flamenco festival. The edition, dedicated to the singer Aurora Vargas, will take place on September 4 at 22:00 in the Manuel Mairena Auditorium, located in the Casa Palacio of the Dukes of Arcos in Mairena del Alcor.

The presentation event was hosted by Juan Garrido, who will also serve as the presenter on the day of the event. Manuel Jiménez Ríos, president of the organising entity; Aurora Vargas, the honouree; and Juan Manuel López, the mayor of the locality, also spoke. The councillor for Culture, Inmaculada Galocha, was also present.

During the evening, the official poster was revealed, created by the designer Diego Peña from Mairena. The composition, with great expressive force, combines blacks, reds, and golds, and integrates the symbolic figure of Antonio Mairena as a guiding presence, while Aurora Vargas occupies the emotional centre of the work. Under the slogan “The competition made festival”, this edition maintains the essence of the competition but adopts a format of a grand artistic gathering.

Manuel Jiménez Ríos highlighted the importance of preserving the essence of the competition and projecting the name of Antonio Mairena and Mairena del Alcor as references of cante jondo. He emphasised the special nature of this edition, conceived as a celebration of the memory and relevance of the competition, which is declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

Aurora Vargas received recognition from the organisation in one of the most emotional moments of the presentation, with her name now linked to the history of an emblematic competition. The mayor, Juan Manuel López, valued the cultural and social dimension of the event, as well as its importance for the identity of the municipality.

The poster by Diego Peña combines digital illustration and flamenco expressiveness. At the top, the figure of the master Antonio Mairena appears as an immortal beacon, while Vargas occupies the centre, represented with the strength that characterises her art. The image captures the spirit of an edition that transforms the competition into a grand celebration without losing its deep roots.

The lineup of invited artists includes Remedios Reyes (with the guitar of Julio Romero), Ana La Yiya (with Antonio García), Caracolillo de Cádiz (with Nono Reyes), Manuel Cástulo (with Manolo Herrera), and Rubio de Pruna (with Marcos de Silva). The night will also feature the dance of María Távora and her troupe, the clapping of Cepa Núñez and Manuel Vinaza, and the presentation by Juan Garrido.

This edition has a charitable character: the funds will be allocated to the works of the Chapel of Christ of the Jail in Mairena del Alcor. The organisation has sought to reinforce the bond between flamenco, heritage, and social commitment.

The event concluded with a gathering among attendees, in an atmosphere of meeting and celebration. The date of September 4 promises to be a night of tribute and tradition around cante jondo.
