The Ministry of Equality confirmed on Monday that the death of Ana Milet H. D., 44 years old, in Mairena del Aljarafe was a misogynistic crime. The victim had no prior reports.
On the night from Friday to Saturday, Ana Milet H. D., a 44-year-old Colombian citizen, was murdered in her home on San Isidro Labrador Street, in the Los Alcores neighbourhood of Mairena del Aljarafe. On Monday, the Ministry of Equality confirmed that this is a misogynistic crime, bringing the total to 25 victims of gender-based violence in Spain in 2026. Since 2003, there have been 1,366 women murdered for this reason.
The victim had a minor child. There were no prior reports against the alleged aggressor, a fact that authorities are investigating to determine if there were any overlooked signs. The case has provoked unanimous condemnation from all administrations.
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, expressed their strong rejection and conveyed their support to the family. In a statement, they urged to redouble institutional and social efforts to prevent further deaths.
In Andalusia, there have been six fatalities so far this year, as highlighted by the Government Delegate in the community, Pedro Fernández. He emphasised the crucial role of the immediate environment in detecting cases of violence:
“Family members, friends, or neighbours play a fundamental role in alerting when the woman, due to fear or her situation of special vulnerability, cannot seek available resources to report herself.”He added that “any sign of violence or aggressive behaviour should be considered sufficient to inform the State Security Forces and Corps.”
The mayor of Mairena del Aljarafe, Antonio Conde, announced that the Town Hall has declared an official day of mourning from 11:00 am on Monday until the same hour on Tuesday. The spokesperson committee unanimously approved the measure. During the morning of Monday, a minute of silence was held at the Town Hall's facade. Conde stated: “Violence against women has no place in Mairena del Aljarafe or in any democratic society. Today our city mourns with Ana and shares the pain of those who loved her. In the face of violence, the response must be unity and commitment from all.”
The mayor thanked the work of the Local Police, the State Security Forces, and the Judicial Authority. He called on citizens: “In any situation of gender violence, it is essential to seek specialised resources. Early detection can save lives.” He also urged not to stigmatise the Los Alcores neighbourhood due to the criminal behaviour of one person.
The murder of Ana Milet reopens the debate on the effectiveness of protection mechanisms. Although the victim had not reported, it is being investigated whether her surroundings noticed warning signs. Official data indicates that in 2026 there are already 13 minors orphaned due to gender violence, and 523 since 2013. The Town Hall has set up a book of condolences and keeps municipal resources for victims active. Anyone who suspects a case is advised to call 016, a free and confidential phone number that leaves no trace on the bill.
