The Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena has unveiled the poster for the LXIV edition of the National Cante Jondo Competition, which will take place on September 4 at the Manuel Mairena Auditorium. The event will pay tribute to the singer Aurora Vargas and will allocate its profits to the restoration of the Chapel of Christ of the Prison.

The poster for the LXIV edition of the National Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena is now official. The work, designed by Diego Peña, was presented at an event held at Casa Orellana, attended by the mayor of Mairena del Alcor, Juan Manuel López; the president of the Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena, Manuel Jiménez Ríos; and the honouree herself, Aurora Vargas. The design, in shades of black, red, and gold, integrates the figure of Antonio Mairena alongside the face of the singer, who receives the main tribute of this edition.

Under the slogan “The competition made festival”, the organisation aims to give a new approach to this historic event, combining the tradition of the contest with a grand flamenco gala format. The event will take place on September 4 at 22:00 at the Manuel Mairena Auditorium, located in the Casa Palacio of the Dukes of Arcos. The presenter Juan Garrido will be in charge of leading the evening, which will bring together prominent flamenco artists.

The artistic poster includes performances by Remedios Reyes singing, accompanied on guitar by Julio Romero; Ana La Yiya with Antonio García; Caracolillo de Cádiz alongside Nono Reyes; Manuel Cástulo with Manolo Herrera; and Rubio de Pruna with the guitar of Marcos de Silva. The dancing will be led by María Távora and her flamenco group, while the rhythm and clapping will be the responsibility of Cepa Núñez and Manuel Vinaza. The selection of artists aims to offer a representative sample of the best current cante jondo, in a format that combines soloists and duos.

The National Cante Jondo Competition Antonio Mairena, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, is one of the oldest flamenco events in the province of Seville. In this edition, in addition to its cultural aspect, the contest takes on a charitable character: the profits from ticket sales will be entirely allocated to fund the renovation works of the Chapel of Christ of the Prison in Mairena del Alcor. In this way, flamenco is linked with the preservation of local heritage, uniting musical tradition and social commitment.

The presentation of the poster marks the starting signal for ticket sales, which can be purchased through the official channels of the Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena. The capacity of the Manuel Mairena Auditorium is limited, so advance purchase is recommended. With this initiative, the Mairena del Alcor City Council and the organisation hope to surpass attendance from previous editions and consolidate the competition as a reference point for flamenco in the Los Alcores region.
