The Town Hall of Mairena del Aljarafe has declared a day of official mourning following the alleged femicide of Ana, a 46-year-old resident. The Civil Guard is investigating the incident as gender-based violence.
The Town Hall of Mairena del Aljarafe has decreed a day of official mourning from 11:00 am on Monday until the same time on Tuesday, in a sign of grief for the alleged femicide of a local resident, identified as Ana. The measure was unanimously approved in an emergency meeting of spokespersons convened by the mayor, Antonio Conde.
The events occurred last Friday in the Los Alcores neighbourhood, when Civil Guard agents responded to a home after an alert. Inside, they found the woman with stab wounds and a 46-year-old man, her partner, with injuries that, according to initial investigations, were likely self-inflicted. The man was taken to a hospital in Seville, where he remains under police custody.
The Government Subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, has confirmed that the investigation is "practically finished" and that all indications point to it being another femicide, pending official confirmation from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. The victim had not previously filed complaints against her aggressor, according to sources from the investigation.
During the minute of silence held at the town hall's façade, Mayor Antonio Conde conveyed "the strongest condemnation of this crime" and expressed the city's affection and solidarity with the victim's family. "Violence against women has no place in Mairena del Aljarafe or in any democratic society," he stated, while calling on citizens to seek specialised resources and the Security Forces in the face of any signs of gender-based violence.
This incident raises the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain to 41 so far this year, according to data from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. In Andalusia, the figure rises to 10 victims in 2026. The town hall has activated support protocols for the residents of the Los Alcores neighbourhood to prevent their stigmatization, and the couple's youngest child is under the care of the Junta de Andalucía after the child protection system protocol was activated.
The mayor has emphasised the importance of early detection and reminded that both the Civil Guard and the National Police have specific training and resources available 24 hours a day. "It is a social responsibility that whenever anyone has the slightest indication, we turn to the State's security forces," he stressed. The Town Hall will keep the flags at half-mast during the day of mourning.
