The Tomares Town Hall, through its Municipal Women's Information Centre, has joined the initiative of the Andalusian Government to remind that resources for victims of gender and sexual violence remain active during the summer.
The Tomares Town Hall, through its Municipal Women's Information Centre (CMIM), has adhered to the prevention campaign against gender and sexual violence 'There is a lot of life behind a call', promoted by the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Andalusian Government, through the Andalusian Women's Institute (IAM). The initiative aims to reinforce awareness and remind that, even during the summer, support and assistance resources remain fully available.
A phone that doesn't close for holidays
Under the slogan 'We don't let our guard down, not even on holidays!', the campaign focuses on the importance of the public knowing and always having the Andalusian Women's Helpline, 900 200 999, at hand. The goal is for anyone, whether a victim, family member, or witness of a possible situation of gender or sexual violence, to know where to turn for help or to report a risky situation.
Although routines change during the summer months, services for women victims of gender violence remain active without interruption. The 900 200 999 helpline operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is free, confidential, and offers assistance in 72 languages, facilitating access to help for any woman who needs it.
A network of comprehensive support
After a call to this service, a support network made up of professionals and specialised resources is activated. Depending on each case, health and emergency services, as well as specialised personnel from the Andalusian Women's Institute, intervene, who accompany the victim from the very first moment if requested. Additionally, the service offers psychological support, legal advice, socio-labour guidance, and free legal defence in cases of sexual violence, aiming to promote the comprehensive recovery of women and also support their families.
For the women of Tomares, the CMIM is a local resource that can channel any inquiry or referral. The campaign emphasises that asking for help is the first step and that the system is prepared to respond quickly and discreetly.
With this initiative, the Tomares Town Hall collaborates in spreading a campaign that insists on the importance of seeking help at any sign of alarm. The message aims to remind that a call can activate all necessary resources to protect a victim and provide support throughout the recovery process.
A message that saves lives
The campaign is not only aimed at potential victims but also at their surroundings: friends, family, or neighbours who may detect a risky situation. The 900 200 999 helpline is operational for anyone who wants to inform themselves or act in a case of gender-based or sexual violence.
This year, Andalusia has recorded several fatalities due to gender violence, making such campaigns essential to maintain social alertness. Summer, with increased time spent at home and the tensions that may arise, is a particularly sensitive period.
The Tomares Town Hall reminds that the CMIM also offers in-person assistance and appointments for those women who prefer more direct contact. Complete information about the resources is available on the municipal website and on the Town Hall's social media profiles.
The initiative 'There is a lot of life behind a call' will be visible on bus shelters, social media, and public spaces in Tomares throughout the summer, aiming to ensure that no neighbour forgets that help is just a phone call away.
