A total of 90 children from Tomares, aged between 6 and 13, have been participating since July 7 in the summer camp organised by the Hermandad del Rocío in the Almonte village. The initiative concludes this Saturday, July 11.
Ninety boys and girls from Tomares, aged between 6 and 13, are experiencing a unique adventure in the Aldea del Rocío. Since last Monday, July 7, and until this Saturday, July 11, the Hermandad del Rocío of Tomares has organised its traditional summer camp, an event that has become a classic in the municipality's summer calendar.
The children, housed in the floors of the Blanca Paloma, enjoy five days of togetherness, games, learning, and growth in brotherhood. This initiative, now in its new edition, aims to provide children with an educational leisure alternative during the holidays while promoting values such as solidarity, camaraderie, and Rocío tradition.
Presentation before the Queen of the Marshes
One of the most emotional moments of the camp was the presentation of the children before the Virgen del Rocío, known as the Queen of the Marshes, in her shrine. There, the special delegate for Major Festivals and Traditions of the Tomares City Council, María Toledo, and the Brother Major of the Hermandad del Rocío, Juan Ramón Criado, accompanied the group in this symbolic act.
“It’s an experience that marks them forever,” highlighted Toledo, who wanted to congratulate the brotherhood for the excellent organisation of the camp. “They make it possible for the little ones to live an experience they will never forget,” added the councillor, emphasising the value of this initiative for the local community.
Five days of togetherness and tradition
The camp includes not only recreational and sports activities but also educational workshops and moments of reflection around the figure of the Virgen del Rocío. The children participate in group dynamics, excursions through the natural surroundings of the Aldea, and evening gatherings that strengthen their bonds.
For the families of Tomares, this proposal offers a breather during the summer while their children enjoy an enriching experience in a safe environment. The Hermandad del Rocío of Tomares, with over a decade of organising these camps, has managed to consolidate a programme that attracts more participants each year. In this edition, the number of registrants has reached a hundred, a figure that reflects the initiative's deep-rootedness.
“It’s an opportunity for children to learn values such as brotherhood and respect while having fun,” explained Juan Ramón Criado, who thanked the collaboration of the Tomares City Council and the volunteers who make the event possible.
A different summer for the little ones from Tomares
For the children, the camp is synonymous with adventure and new friends. “I’m having a great time, we’ve played games and we went to see the Virgen,” excitedly shared one of the participants. The experience, which combines tradition and fun, has become a summer reference in Tomares.
The City Council, through its delegate for Major Festivals and Traditions, has shown its unconditional support for the initiative. “From the City Council, we want to congratulate the Hermandad for the excellent organisation and for making it possible for nearly a hundred children and young people from the municipality to live an enriching experience,” stated María Toledo.
The camp concludes this Saturday, July 11, when the children will return to Tomares with their backpacks full of memories and, probably, eager to repeat it next year. The Hermandad del Rocío is already working on the next edition, aiming to surpass the number of participants and continue offering a different summer to the little ones.
