The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall is implementing a plan this summer to improve educational infrastructures with an annual budget exceeding 1,100,000 euros. The works include shade in playgrounds, access reforms, and a speed limit of 20 km/h in school surroundings.
The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has launched an ambitious plan this summer to improve the educational centres in the municipality, with sustained investment exceeding one million euros annually. The mayor, Juanma López, and the councillors for Education and Services have supervised the works at the 'Isabel Esquivel' school, where part of the summer activities have been focused.
The aim, according to municipal sources, is to ensure equity, road safety, and thermal comfort in all public schools for the upcoming school year, taking advantage of the school break to carry out the reforms without disrupting teaching activities.
Shade in playgrounds and key reforms
The Education delegate, Gloria Guillén, has coordinated interventions that include the installation of shade structures in the infant area of the 'Manuel Romero Arregui' school, the adaptation of two classrooms for psychomotricity and library in the 'Antonio González', and the reform of the access to the pavilion of the 'Juan Caraballo' school to solve the problems caused by rain.
The new summer plan focuses on providing shaded areas in playgrounds, evaluating the use of artificial awnings or natural vegetation through the new gardening contract, in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía. These improvements complement the energy transformation of previous years, which exceeded one million euros alongside the Andalusian Energy Agency to install photovoltaic panels, thermal insulation, and new windows.
According to the City Council, 100% of the centres in Mairena del Alcor already have school canteens and internal climate control, a fact that places the municipality at the forefront of educational infrastructures in the Los Alcores region.
Road safety: speed limit of 20 km/h
In terms of perimeter safety, the Town Hall has activated an emergency plan for access to educational centres. The Services councillor, José Romero, has detailed that the summer works include comprehensive interventions and maintenance tasks to protect minors before the start of classes.
The main control measure is the implementation of specific signage that sets the speed limit at 20 km/h in the areas surrounding schools. Romero has called for citizen responsibility behind the wheel, reminding the importance of strictly adhering to road signs. The governing team has thanked the constant dialogue and support of local AMPAs in the development of these actions.
For the residents of Mairena del Alcor, these improvements will represent a notable change in daily life: parents will be able to drop off their children in a safer environment, and students will enjoy shaded playgrounds and better-equipped classrooms. The works will be completed before the start of the school year, scheduled for September.
