Mayor Antonio Conde has revealed the first details of the project that will move the town hall to the Old Town. The current building will be converted into a social and educational centre.

The Town Hall of Mairena del Aljarafe is already working on the initial phase of the project that will relocate the town hall to Plaza de la Casa Grande, in the heart of the Old Town. This has been confirmed by Mayor Antonio Conde, who has detailed the plans for the new building and the future of the current town hall.

“We are adapting the beginnings of a project that aims to reorganise into two sections: to locate a future municipal headquarters in Plaza de la Casa Grande and to readapt the current building for essential services,” explained the mayor.

An institutional headquarters for the Old Town

The new headquarters will be built in Plaza de la Casa Grande, a space that the mayor considers “the unique building that the city must have.” The intention is to reinforce the prominence of the Old Town as a reference institutional centre.

The project, announced months ago in the Board of Spokespersons, aims to provide Mairena with a building that matches its demographic and administrative growth. According to municipal sources, the new construction will allow for the centralisation of services that are currently dispersed.

The current Town Hall, located in the urban core, will cease to house administrative functions. Instead, it will be transformed into a space for “social and educational activity,” according to Conde.

A new use for the old town hall

The current building will be readapted to host essential services and, in the future, a programme of activities that “we intend to also make a hub of social and educational activity for the entire municipality,” added the mayor.

The reorganisation of spaces will allow the old town hall to have “a new life” oriented towards the residents. Although timelines have not been specified, the Town Hall is already working on the first sketches and feasibility studies.

For the residents of Mairena, the change will mean a new administrative reference point in the Old Town, while the current building will become a civic centre. The initiative also aims to revitalise a historic area that will gain in institutional and social activity.

The project is part of a broader plan for the modernisation of municipal infrastructures, which includes improvements in accessibility and energy efficiency. Although the mayor did not specify dates, initial estimates suggest that construction could begin in the coming months.

The new Town Hall is shaping up to be an emblematic building that, according to Conde, “we have all aspired to” for the Old Town. Meanwhile, the current town hall is preparing for its second life as a meeting space for the residents of Mairena.
