Virgen del Rocío University Hospital has greenlit its Equality Operational Plan, a document with 47 measures to advance gender equality, work-life balance, and prevent discrimination in a centre where 74% of the staff are women.
Virgen del Rocío University Hospital, in Seville, has approved its Equality Operational Plan, a document that establishes 47 measures to ensure effective equality between women and men within the organisation. The plan, promoted by the hospital's Equality Operational Commission, is part of the Equality Plan of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), as reported by the Health Department.
Of these 47 measures, 29 are transversal and apply to the entire SAS, while the remaining 18 are direct actions specific to the hospital. The aim is to integrate equality of treatment and opportunities in personnel management, work organisation, communication, and decision-making.
A hospital with a female majority
Virgen del Rocío has a workforce of 10,148 professionals, of which 74.23% are women and 25.77% are men. It is a predominantly female organisation, which is common in the healthcare sector, especially in care-related professions. The plan aims to move towards a more equal, inclusive, and discrimination-free work environment.
The Equality Operational Commission is responsible for promoting and implementing the measures, coordinating their development, and supervising their compliance. It is also tasked with analysing the equality situation in the workplace and proposing improvement actions when necessary. The plan is conceived as a practical tool so that actions are not limited to formal compliance but are effectively incorporated into daily management.
Ten strategic axes for equality
The Operational Plan is structured around 10 strategic axes that include specific actions with compliance indicators, deadlines, and responsible parties. Among the priorities are participation in decision-making bodies, inclusive communication, and visual audits, as well as promoting equality role models and achieving gender parity in the centre's institutional image.
Actions are also established for the work-life balance of the staff, with annual reports and dissemination of best practices. Furthermore, protection against gender violence and occupational health for all workers is reinforced. The ultimate goal is for the hospital to progressively and measurably advance towards a more equal environment.
The plan complies with the SAS Equality Plan, which assumes that citizen care must contribute to achieving equality of opportunities between men and women and achieving the same effect regarding its professionals. With this initiative, Virgen del Rocío positions itself as a benchmark in integrating the gender perspective in the healthcare sector of Seville.
