La Vuelta a España 2026 will pass through Alcalá de Guadaíra on Wednesday, September 9 during stage 17, which will connect Dos Hermanas with Seville. The peloton will traverse avenues such as Santa Lucía, Antonio Mairena, and 28 de Febrero.
On September 9, 2026, Alcalá de Guadaíra will once again take centre stage in world cycling with the passage of La Vuelta a España. Stage 17, spanning 189 kilometres, will start in Dos Hermanas and finish in the capital of Seville, with the peloton crossing the urban area of Alcalá during its route.
The entry into the town will occur from Morón de la Frontera via the SE-3203 road. Cyclists will access the urban centre via Avenida Santa Lucía, continuing along Calle Arahal and Avenida Antonio Mairena until reaching the Beca roundabout. From there, they will proceed along Avenida 28 de Febrero to the Empresario Pedro Rusillo Espinosa roundabout, where they will turn to rejoin the same avenue and connect with Calle Manuel Azaña. Finally, they will cross the A-92 motorway via the A-392 road towards Mairena del Alcor and El Viso del Alcor.
A key stage in the final stretch of the competition
The day of September 9 will be the penultimate before the conclusion of La Vuelta, which will end on September 13 in Granada. With only four stages remaining after this day, the passage through Alcalá could be a strategic point for teams looking to improve their overall standings. The profile of the stage, mostly flat but with some climbs, could favour sprinters or a breakaway.
Stage 17 will pass through several municipalities in the province: it will start from Dos Hermanas, pass through Utrera, Morón de la Frontera, Alcalá de Guadaíra, Mairena del Alcor, El Viso del Alcor, Carmona, San José de la Rinconada, and La Rinconada, before reaching Seville. The finish line will be located at Paseo de Colón, next to the Real Maestranza bullring, after an urban route of nearly eleven kilometres through the capital, passing through Triana, the Guadalquivir River, the Torre del Oro, and the Paseo de las Delicias.
Alcalá, a showcase for elite cycling
The mayor of Alcalá de Guadaíra, Ana Isabel Jiménez, has positively assessed the return of the event to the city. “It will be, as on other occasions, a special day that will be experienced with a great sporting atmosphere in Alcalá, enjoying cycling at this highest level of competition,” she stated. Jiménez was accompanied at the presentation by the Sports Delegate, Pedro Gracia.
For the residents of Alcalá, the passage of La Vuelta represents a unique opportunity to see the best cyclists in the world in action without leaving their municipality. The urban route, which covers several main avenues, will allow numerous fans to gather along the course to cheer on the peloton. Additionally, the proximity to the end of the competition adds an extra thrill, as the riders will be in a fierce battle for the red jersey.
The 81st edition of La Vuelta, which will kick off on August 22 in Monaco, will consist of 21 stages and 3,275 kilometres. The event returns to the province of Seville two years after the arrival celebrated in the capital in 2024. For Alcalá, it confirms its role as a regular stop in major cycling tours, something that has occurred in previous editions and generates a significant tourist and economic impact.
Those interested in following the race can check the approximate timings on the official La Vuelta website a few days prior. Attendees are advised to arrive early and respect the instructions of security personnel to ensure the smooth running of the event.
