The Department of Educational Development has invested 300,941.97 euros in IES Ciudad de las Cabezas since 2021. The actions include improvements in infrastructure, air conditioning, and technology.
The IES Ciudad de las Cabezas, located in Las Cabezas de San Juan, has received a total investment of 300,941.97 euros since 2021. The funds, coming from the Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Junta de Andalucía, have been allocated to improve facilities, technology, and vocational training resources.
The territorial delegate of Educational Development in Seville, Miguel Ángel Araúz, has emphasized that “the commitment of Juanma Moreno's Government to improving educational centres translates into investments that directly impact the quality of teaching and the well-being of the entire educational community.” Araúz also highlighted that these actions allow for safer spaces tailored to current needs for students.
Infrastructure and Air Conditioning
Of the total amount, 105,304 euros have been used for completed infrastructure works, maintenance, and improvements. Additionally, another 24,370.25 euros have been allocated for repairs and conservation of the centre.
The institute has also benefited from the Thermal Comfort Programme, with a budget of 26,123.19 euros. This amount has allowed for the installation of 26 split-type air conditioning units, improving environmental conditions in classrooms and teaching spaces. Students and teachers will notice the difference, especially during the hottest months when high temperatures hinder concentration.
Digital Transformation and Vocational Training
In the area of digitalization, the Department has invested 115,151.36 euros. This figure has been used to acquire 114 new technological devices: interactive digital screens, mobile panels, laptops, a 3D printer, virtual reality glasses, digital microscopes, accessories for a radio workshop, and portable speakers. According to the Junta, all of this will facilitate the implementation of active methodologies and the development of students' digital skills.
Furthermore, 29,992.17 euros have been allocated for specific equipment for vocational training cycles. The aim is to modernize training spaces so that students face environments similar to those in the real professional field.
A Centre that Reads and Exhibits Art
IES Ciudad de las Cabezas is not only renewing its facilities. It has also been recognized by the Department as the only institute in the province of Seville distinguished in the VIII edition of the Awards for the Promotion of Reading. Its project “¡Aquí se lee!”, under the slogan “A daily appointment with words”, won third prize in the ESO category. The initiative turns reading into an organized and shared practice throughout the educational community.
But there is more. The centre stands out for its “School-Museum” project, which integrates art and cultural heritage into daily life. Hallways and classrooms are transformed into an art gallery, featuring reproductions of works such as The Kiss by Klimt or The Young Ladies of Avignon by Picasso. The students themselves guide the visits, becoming active protagonists of their learning.
With this financial boost, the institute hopes to continue improving educational quality. The residents of Las Cabezas de San Juan, a municipality of just over 16,000 inhabitants in the Marismas del Guadalquivir, see their public centre being modernized. The next time they stroll through its hallways, they might encounter a Klimt or a Van Gogh while students enjoy the air conditioning. Not bad for a village school.
