Thousands accompanied last night the Patroness of Alcalá de Guadaíra in her traditional procession on August 15, with the streets adorned and extensive security measures in place.
Alcalá de Guadaíra experienced one of its most emotional nights of the year with the procession of the Virgin of the Eagle, the town's Patroness, which traversed the beautifully decorated and extraordinarily illuminated streets in celebration of August 15. The popular fervour overflowed in her wake, at an event that the Brotherhood of the Eagle, the General Council of Brotherhoods, and the Town Hall prepare for months to ensure everything goes according to tradition.
The security and cleaning operation was coordinated by municipal employees, Aira Gestión Ambiental, Civil Protection, Alcalá de Guadaíra Firefighters, Local Police, and National Police forces, along with health services. An operation that worked without significant incidents to guarantee that the day went smoothly.
Hours earlier, the esplanade of the Sanctuary of the Eagle hosted the Main Function in honour of the Virgin, attended by the mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, and members of the Municipal Corporation. During the ceremony, the mayor highlighted the deep-rooted nature of this devotion in the city.
“It touches the hearts of the people of Alcalá,” Jiménez stated about the image appearing at the temple's threshold.
As tradition dictates, the herald for the upcoming Holy Week of Alcalá de Guadaíra was officially proclaimed before the Patroness. The chosen one has been Miguel Ángel Márquez de la Costa, who will take over the proclamation that will open the Lenten events of 2026.
The day of August 15 once again demonstrated the weight of traditions in Alcalá's identity, with massive participation in both the religious function and the procession route. The Virgin of the Eagle returned to her sanctuary well into the early hours, amidst the applause and emotion of her faithful.
