The minors in the summer workshops at the Popular University of Alcalá de Guadaíra participated in a cybersecurity day organised with the Red Cross. The activity aims to raise awareness about responsible internet use and parental supervision.
The Popular University of Alcalá de Guadaíra has incorporated a cybersecurity day into its summer workshops this year, in collaboration with the Red Cross and its Click_a programme. The initiative, which took place this Tuesday, brought together dozens of children from the municipality to learn how to navigate the internet safely.
Age-appropriate content and discussion on digital risks
The monitors divided the participants into groups according to their age to tailor the content to their needs. The Education Delegate, Pablo Chain, explained that these complementary activities “are attractive to minors and provide a great contribution to their personal development, sociability, and collective culture.” In addition to cybersecurity, the workshops will include meetings with the Local Police, National Police, Firefighters, the Music Band, or the Chess School, as well as visits to the Museum, the Harinera del Guadaíra, and the Oromana Park.
During the day, the children discussed the pros and cons of the internet, shared tips for identifying safe websites, and learned to detect signs of deception or identity theft. The importance of parental supervision was also emphasised, a message that the Red Cross considers key.
Virtual reality and digital games as educational hooks
The activity was not limited to theory: the minors participated in digital games and experimented with 3D virtual reality glasses, one of the proposals that was most successful among the children. The Red Cross highlighted that the programme is not only aimed at children but also at parents, who are provided with tools and advice for beneficial screen time management.
“It is important to alert parents to the need for awareness and responsibility in light of the increasing use of screens,” sources from the organisation stated. The Click_a programme of the Red Cross approaches institutions, associations, schools, and institutes to disseminate these guidelines.
A summer with more educational and recreational offerings in Alcalá
The summer workshops at the Popular University of Alcalá de Guadaíra have established themselves as a resource for family reconciliation and educational leisure. Chain emphasised that, alongside traditional cultural and leisure workshops, the City Council has opted to introduce complementary activities like this, which add value to the free time of minors.
In the coming days, participants will continue to enjoy outings and workshops that combine fun and learning. The next event will be with the Local Police, who will give a talk on road safety. The programme extends throughout the summer, with schedules adapted to the needs of Alcalá families.
For parents interested in enrolling their children, there are still places available in some sessions. Information can be found on the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council website or at the Popular University headquarters.
