The athletes from Tomares have won two golds and three silvers at the Olympic Rowing Championship, held at the CEAR La Cartuja in Seville. Juan Veiga and Jorge Montaño were crowned national champions.
The rowing team from Tomares has once again shone brightly at the Olympic Rowing Championship, held last weekend at the facilities of CEAR La Cartuja in Seville. The athletes from the Aljarafe municipality amassed a total of five medals —two golds and three silvers— along with several honourable mentions that confirm Tomares as a national reference in this sport.
Two National Champions in Junior and Veteran Categories
The young Juan Veiga was crowned national champion in the 4 Scull Mixed Alevín category, a race that combines technique and speed. Meanwhile, Jorge Montaño secured the national title as coxswain in the 8 Veteran Women category, demonstrating his versatility by also competing in the junior category, where he finished fourth in the 8 with Male Junior Coxswain.
“These results are the fruit of the work throughout the season,” say sources from the Tomares club, highlighting the local talent pool as key to these successes.
Silvers for Alfredo Girón, Miriam Borrero, and José Enrique de Vera
The silver medals were won by Alfredo Girón, runner-up in 4 with Male Veteran Coxswain; Miriam Borrero, who achieved the runner-up position in 4 with Female Veteran Coxswain; and José Enrique de Vera, silver in 4 Scull Mixed Veteran. Additionally, Girón added a sixth place in 8 with Male Veteran Coxswain.
The championship, which brought together the best rowers in the country at the Seville high-performance centre, also left good impressions for Jaime Carrasco, who finished fifth in 2 without Male Veteran Coxswain and sixth in 8 with Male Veteran Coxswain; and Luis Pino, who came ninth in this last category.
Tomares, a Breeding Ground for Talent in National Rowing
These results consolidate Tomares as one of the municipalities with the greatest potential in Spanish rowing. For the locals, this news is a source of pride: the local club continues to train athletes who compete at the highest level, and the CEAR La Cartuja, located in the province itself, allows these achievements to be celebrated at home.
The next challenge for the rowers from Tomares will be the autumn season, with new regional and national competitions where they will aim to repeat or improve these records. Meanwhile, the municipality celebrates that the name of Tomares continues to resonate strongly in the waters of Olympic rowing.
