The Mairena del Aljarafe Town Hall has presented the 'Mairena al Día' plan, which will mobilise €11.3 million in six actions to renew gardening, lighting, pavements and public schools.

The Mairena del Aljarafe Town Hall has launched the 'Mairena al Día' plan, an investment of €11.3 million aimed at modernising the public services closest to residents. The initiative, presented on Wednesday 8th July, includes six major actions ranging from gardening to painting schools, with the aim of adapting the municipality to its population growth.

Gardening and lighting, the largest allocations

Councillor José Luis Girón detailed the planned investments. The largest allocation, of €5.8 million, will be dedicated to the comprehensive modernisation of public lighting to make it more efficient and sustainable. This is followed by gardening, with €2.05 million for a new maintenance service for parks and green areas. Pavements will receive €2.4 million to expedite repairs in streets and squares, while tree pits will be allocated €400,000 for their renewal.

“A city is not only built with large projects, but also with small actions that improve day-to-day life: well-maintained parks, better-kept streets, efficient lighting,” stated Mayor Antonio Conde.

The plan also includes €576,000 for the painting and improvement of public educational centres (CEIP) and €128,000 to acquire two new infrastructure vehicles. In total, six lines of action aim to meet the daily needs of residents.

A plan developed since 2022

The Town Hall emphasised that 'Mairena al Día' is not an improvised response, but the result of planning initiated in 2022, following the renewal of street cleaning and waste collection services. That initial improvement laid the groundwork for a strategy that is now completed with the updating of gardening, road maintenance, lighting and material resources.

Mayor Antonio Conde compared the current moment to the growth experienced by Mairena after Expo 92. “Some basic services were becoming inadequate for the current reality of the municipality,” he explained, noting that the population has significantly increased in recent decades. For the average resident, this will translate into better-maintained parks, better-lit streets and improved schools, with a direct impact on their quality of life.

A historic investment for daily life

With this €11.3 million, Mairena del Aljarafe is making one of the largest municipal commitments to public services in recent years. The plan starts immediately, with actions that will be executed progressively. Residents will begin to notice changes in the coming months, especially in lighting and green areas, the largest allocations. The Town Hall expects all works to be completed within two years, with the aim of “bringing Mairena up to date.”
