The Archbishop of Seville has visited the facilities of the future Night Centre "Saiz Meneses", the main social legacy of the II International Congress of Brotherhoods. The centre, located on Don Remondo street, will offer overnight accommodation and comprehensive support to homeless individuals.
The Archbishop of Seville, José Ángel Saiz Meneses, visited this morning the facilities of the future Night Centre that will bear his name, located on Don Remondo street. The centre, promoted by the Archdiocese of Seville, is the main charitable legacy of the II International Congress of Brotherhoods and Popular Piety and will provide overnight accommodation and comprehensive support to individuals experiencing homelessness.
During the visit, the Archbishop was accompanied by the episcopal vicar for Social Pastoral, Salvador Diánez; the director of Diocesan Caritas of Seville, Miguel Ángel Carbajo; the architect responsible for the project, José María Rincón; and several heads of various areas of the Social Work of the Congress. They were all able to verify the state of the works, which are already completed.
A Resource That Goes Beyond a Roof
The Night Centre "Saiz Meneses" will not just be a place to sleep. According to the promoters, the centre aims to become a reference space to promote personal recovery and social integration processes, placing the dignity of each person and close support at its core. This is a project that complements the work that Diocesan Caritas has been developing for years through projects of accommodation, support, and social inclusion.
The opening of the centre is expected in the coming months, once the facilities are equipped and the corresponding administrative licenses are obtained. The Archdiocese has emphasised that this resource will expand the attention that the Church of Seville provides to homeless individuals, reinforcing the existing network of resources for homelessness in the city.
"This centre is a tangible sign of the Church's commitment to the most vulnerable," the Archbishop noted during the visit.
A Legacy of the Congress of Brotherhoods
The Night Centre "Saiz Meneses" constitutes the main social fruit of the II International Congress of Brotherhoods and Popular Piety, held in Seville. It responds to the commitment made by the Archdiocese that this ecclesial event would leave a permanent mark in favour of the most vulnerable individuals. The project is integrated into the social action of the Archdiocese and responds to the pastoral priorities promoted by Monsignor Saiz Meneses, which place the most vulnerable individuals at the centre of the Church's evangelising mission.
For the residents of Seville, the opening of this centre represents a new resource in the fight against homelessness, a problem that affects hundreds of people in the capital. With a capacity yet to be determined, the centre will offer a night service that adds to the existing ones, such as the municipal shelter or day centres.
The Social Work of the Congress has been made possible thanks to donations from the faithful and the brotherhoods themselves, who wanted to leave a tangible legacy beyond the acts of the congress. The initiative has been coordinated by Diocesan Caritas, which will manage the centre once it is operational.
The next step will be the completion of the interior equipment and obtaining the necessary licenses. It is expected that the centre will be able to open its doors before the end of the year, although the Archdiocese has not wanted to provide a specific date.
