The City Council of Sevilla has closed a children's and dog park in the Sevilla Este neighbourhood after finding poisoned chocolates and chemicals. Delegate José Luis García has filed a complaint with the National Police.

A children's and dog park located between Manuel Olivencia and Faustino Gutiérrez streets in the Sevilla Este neighbourhood has been closed by the City Council of Sevilla after residents alerted to the presence of poisoned chocolates and other chemicals. The Council has confirmed that these substances are "foreign to the municipal rat control plan", indicating a deliberate action.

Residents' discovery and immediate closure

It was the residents of the area who raised the alarm upon finding the chocolates scattered on the ground of the park, alongside other toxic compounds. The City Council, through its official account on the social network X, announced the closure of the space as a precautionary measure to avoid any risk, both for the children playing in the children's area and for the pets using the dog area.

According to municipal sources, following the detection of the poisons, the enclosure was immediately fenced off. The aim is to prevent access until the facts are clarified and the origin of the substances is determined. The park, located in the East-Alcosa-Torreblanca District, is very frequented by families and dog owners from the neighbourhood.

Complaint to the National Police

The district delegate, José Luis García, has filed a formal complaint with the National Police to investigate what happened. The City Council has indicated that the chocolates may have been intentionally tampered with, and that the chemicals found do not correspond to any action from the municipal rat control plan. This reinforces the hypothesis that someone placed the poisons deliberately.

The local government has expressed gratitude for the residents' cooperation, which allowed for a swift response. "Thanks to the alert from the neighbours, we have been able to prevent possible serious incidents," sources from the Council have stated. They have also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure but emphasised that safety is the priority.

Consequences for the neighbourhood and recommendations

The closure of the park directly affects the residents of Sevilla Este, who lose a recreational space for children and pets. Many parents and dog owners have expressed concern about safety in the area. The City Council recommends heightened vigilance in other nearby parks and not to touch any suspicious objects found on the ground.

While the National Police investigates the events, the park will remain closed indefinitely. It is not ruled out that security measures in other public spaces in the district will be reinforced to prevent similar incidents from occurring. Residents hope that the responsible party will be identified and exemplary measures will be taken.
