The deputy of Adelante Andalucía, Begoña Iza, has criticized the Lebrija City Council for neglecting the Early Childhood Care Centre, which cares for 110 children with only two of the seven necessary professionals.
The deputy of Adelante Andalucía for Seville, Begoña Iza, has directly pointed to the Lebrija City Council for neglecting the Early Childhood Care Centre (CAIT), a service that currently cares for 110 children in the municipality. According to her, the centre should have seven professionals, but only two are working, which means that the children cannot receive their therapies.
Iza has reminded that the City Council has managed the service since 2017, but in May it decided to return the responsibilities to the Junta de Andalucía without providing explanations or informing the families. The deputy has criticized the mayor for violating the Childhood and Adolescence Law and the Early Care Law of Andalucía, which guarantee these essential services.
A situation that affects the youngest
The deputy explained that the City Council justifies the situation with "staff shortages", despite the fact that "the pool is perfectly equipped to cover the positions and yet the City Council remains obstinate." This is causing children to be unable to receive their therapies, which are fundamental for their development. "Continuity with their therapists is key in cases of developmental difficulties," she emphasized.
Iza warned that "children cannot keep waiting for the Junta and the City Council to come to an understanding." Therefore, Adelante Andalucía will bring this matter to the Andalusian Parliament through written questions so that "it is clear what the Junta's priorities are regarding the care of children with difficulties in Lebrija."
A call for responsibility
Finally, the deputy has made a call to the Lebrija City Council and the Junta de Andalucía to maintain the service. "Our children are not numbers, they are not disputes between workers, nor transfers of responsibilities," she stated. She insisted that "they need us to uphold their rights and that early care is a fundamental service."
For the families of Lebrija, this situation represents a constant uncertainty. Many of them do not know if their children will be able to continue with the necessary therapies. Meanwhile, the City Council and the Junta de Andalucía will need to reach an agreement that guarantees care for the minors. The next meeting will be in Parliament, where the regional government is expected to clarify its plans for the CAIT.
