The spokesperson for Adelante Andalucía, José Ignacio García, has shown his support for the strike of Airbus workers in Sevilla, denouncing a continued lack of respect towards the workforce.
José Ignacio García, spokesperson for Adelante Andalucía, backed the strike of Airbus workers in Sevilla on Wednesday and demanded that governments stand by the workforce. During an appearance alongside the protesters, García denounced that the labour conflict is due to a systematic lack of respect towards employees.
A long-standing conflict
García emphasised that the mobilisation is not due to a specific issue, but rather a culmination of disagreements.
“The systematic lack of respect, day after day, against the working conditions of Airbus workers is what has led to this, that their workers have said enough is enough,”the spokesperson stated. The company, which according to García generates multibillion-dollar profits, must remember that every euro of profit is thanks to its employees, he insisted.
For the spokesperson, the strike is a response to years of labour mistreatment, where remote work is just the tip of the iceberg. The workforce demands respect and decent conditions, something that, in his view, the management of Airbus has not guaranteed.
Call to the administrations
Adelante Andalucía has called on the central government and the Junta de Andalucía to support the workers' demands.
“We at Adelante Andalucía support all mobilisations, we support the demands,”García declared, before adding that “this government is also responsible for this mistreatment and lack of respect towards workers.” The spokesperson has demanded that all governments stand by the workforce and show their support, because “all they are asking for is respect for their work.”
The Andalusian party has announced its participation in the demonstration scheduled for next Thursday, which they expect thousands of Sevillians to join. García insisted that the Airbus Sevilla conflict transcends party lines and is a matter of labour justice.
The workers at the Airbus plant in Sevilla have been on strike for days, protesting the lack of progress in collective bargaining and what they consider an intransigent attitude from management. The workforce, made up of over 4,000 employees, is demanding improvements in wages and working conditions.
From the workers' committee, they have expressed gratitude for the support from political parties and have called on the public to join the mobilisations. The strike is affecting production at the plant, which manufactures components for the A400M and other military and civilian aircraft.
For the residents of the province of Sevilla, the conflict has a direct impact: Airbus is one of the main economic engines of the region, and any prolonged stoppage could affect the supply chain and indirect employment. Next Thursday, the demonstration will march through the streets of Sevilla, with a planned start at 12:00 from Puerta de Jerez.
