The City Council of Seville has presented 'Seville Heritage Flavour', an initiative that connects gastronomy with the heritage of the city through videos and digital content.

Seville's gastronomy is no longer just a pleasure for the palate, but a gateway to the city's history. The City Council of Seville, through the Tourism and Culture Department, has launched the 'Seville Heritage Flavour' project, an initiative that aims to position local cuisine as a major tourist and cultural attraction. The presentation took place at the Royal Artillery Factory, a space that symbolizes the fusion of heritage and identity that the programme seeks.

A culinary narrative that connects spaces and flavours

The project materialises in a series of audiovisual pieces featuring Seville chefs. Each episode showcases the preparation of a dish linked to a heritage site in the city, such as markets, squares, or historic buildings. The aim is to offer visitors an experience that goes beyond tasting: to discover the history behind each recipe, the local products that make it possible, and the relationship between cuisine and Seville's culture.

As explained by the Tourism and Culture delegate, Angie Moreno,

“Seville is not only visited or admired; Seville is also savoured. Our gastronomy is part of our heritage and constitutes one of the best ways to know the city from authenticity.”
The initiative includes interviews, recipes, and educational content in four languages: Spanish, English, French, and German, to reach the main international tourist markets.

Gastronomy, the second reason to visit Seville

Moreno highlighted that

“gastronomy is already the second reason why visitors come to Seville”
, which necessitates promoting projects that enhance the culinary potential of the city. The delegate emphasised that Seville boasts top-notch hospitality, internationally recognised chefs, and a culinary tradition that is part of its identity. 'Seville Heritage Flavour' aims to be a tool to promote this heritage and attract tourists more interested in authentic experiences.

The project is part of the City Council's strategy for more sustainable tourism connected to the territory. Moreno pointed out that

“it perfectly represents the tourism model we advocate, a tourism capable of generating greater added value and putting at the centre those who make the gastronomic excellence of our city possible every day.”

Digital content to discover Seville before, during, and after the trip

All audiovisual material will be available on the digital platform Seville Heritage Flavour. There, users will be able to access videos, recipes, and interviews that will allow them to discover the flavours of the city at any time. The initiative aims for visitors to plan their gastronomic journey, enjoy it on-site, and remember it later with online content.

For the residents of Seville, this project represents an opportunity to rediscover their own city. The selected dishes and spaces reflect the diversity of Seville's culture, from the most traditional tapas to the most innovative proposals from local chefs. Additionally, the international dissemination of the project could attract more tourists, benefiting the hospitality sector and local commerce.

The Royal Artillery Factory, where the initiative was presented, is an example of how Seville's industrial heritage can be integrated into the cultural offer. The 18th-century building has been restored and now hosts events that connect history with contemporary creativity.

Moreno concluded by stating that

“behind an initiative like this, there are many hours of work and a shared vision of the city. 'Seville Heritage Flavour' is a tool to continue projecting to the world an authentic Seville, where heritage, culture, and gastronomy are part of the same narrative.”

Interested parties can consult the project's website to learn about the first videos and recipes. The City Council plans to expand the content with new releases over the coming months, thus consolidating a tourist offer that bets on quality and authenticity.
