According to the firefighters, the main problem is the improper use of power strips to connect high-power equipment, such as portable air conditioners. These devices should always be plugged directly into the wall socket, never through a power strip or extension lead.
Another key guideline is to turn off fans and air conditioning units when leaving the house, even for a short time. They also stress the need to periodically clean air conditioning filters, as dust accumulation forces the motor and accelerates overheating.
The rise in outdoor temperatures necessitates heightened caution inside homes. At any sign of danger, such as the smell of burnt plastic or the presence of smoke, firefighters recommend contacting emergency services immediately.
This campaign is part of the special operation that the municipal service deploys every summer in Seville, when interventions in homes due to electrical incidents multiply. Residents of the capital and the metropolitan area should check the condition of their installations and avoid overloading power outlets.
