The Dos Hermanas City Council has begun conservation and restoration work on the Cruz de Montequinto, an intervention that will be carried out by the Nazarene sculptor Antonio Luis Troya Román.
The Dos Hermanas City Council has launched the restoration of the Cruz de Montequinto, a heritage element deeply rooted in one of the most populated neighbourhoods of the municipality. The intervention, which has already begun, aims to recover its original image and ensure its conservation in the medium and long term.
The work will be executed by the Nazarene sculptor Antonio Luis Troya Román, who will apply minimal intervention criteria and use products and materials compatible with the stone support of the cross. The objective is to respect the historical, material, and formal values of the element at all times.
The first phase will consist of a preliminary study of the condition of the cross, including a detailed visual inspection, a complete photographic report, and the identification of cracks, deposits, paints, or biological deterioration agents. Preliminary tests will also be conducted to determine the most suitable cleaning methods.
Subsequently, a surface cleaning will be carried out using controlled manual procedures to remove accumulated dust and dirt. The intervention will include specific treatment of biological organisms and the removal of more adhered deposits, avoiding erosion or alteration of the original stone.
As a final phase, a breathable protective treatment will be applied to reduce water absorption and protect the cross from atmospheric agents and pollution, thus prolonging the durability of the restoration. Throughout the work, the area will be properly cordoned off.
This action is part of the municipal programme for the maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of the architectural and cultural heritage of Dos Hermanas. In recent years, similar interventions have been carried out at the Torre del Mirador de La Almona, the monument to the Virgen de Valme in Plaza Menéndez y Pelayo, the Torre del Olivar on Calle Real Utrera, the monument of the horseman and the flamenco dancer on the Glorieta Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía, the monument of the olive pickers on Avenida José Luis Prats, the monument to Fraternity in Plaza de la Constitución, the Arab pavilion and the Chinese pagoda in Parque de La Alquería, as well as the monumental fountain in Plaza de la Constitución.
With this new intervention, the City Council continues its commitment to preserving the elements that are part of the history, identity, and urban landscape of the city. Once the work is completed, the Cruz de Montequinto will once again shine in its usual location, restored for the enjoyment of the residents.
