The Private Security Workers Federation of USO Andalucía has filed a complaint with the Labour Inspectorate against the company GS24 for serious deficiencies in the security service at Avinatur Paradas, where workers endure temperatures of up to 42 degrees without air conditioning or toilets.
The Private Security Workers Federation of USO Andalucía has lodged a formal complaint with the Provincial Labour and Social Security Inspectorate of Seville against the company GS24, responsible for the security service at the Avinatur Paradas facilities, a company of the Aviserrano Group located in the municipality of Paradas in Seville.
According to the union, the security guards providing service at this centre have highlighted a series of working conditions that may violate the Occupational Risk Prevention Law. Among the reported deficiencies is the existence of a service booth without operational electrical supply inside, with the electrical panel located several metres away, preventing the operation of any basic equipment.
Furthermore, the booth lacks a climate control or air conditioning system, forcing workers to endure temperatures that, they report, exceed 40-42 degrees Celsius during the working day. Faced with this situation, the guards are compelled to leave the booth to seek refuge in shaded areas, which compromises the provision of the service.
Another shortcoming noted is the lack of sufficient exterior lighting to safely perform the service during night hours, as well as the absence of chemical toilets or adequate sanitary facilities to meet the basic physiological needs of the workers. There are also no fire extinguishers or fire safety measures available in the booth.
The union warns that these conditions can lead to heat strokes, thermal stress, dizziness, dehydration, or other health issues, especially considering the high temperatures recorded in the province of Seville during the summer months. According to the affected workers, they have already communicated these deficiencies to the company repeatedly, but no effective corrective measures have been taken to date.
The FTSP-USO believes that the described facts violate Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention, particularly regarding the effective protection of workers' safety and health, risk assessment, the adoption of preventive measures, and protection against extreme environmental conditions.
Therefore, the union requests the Labour Inspectorate to conduct an urgent inspection visit to the Avinatur Paradas service to verify the actual working conditions, check the existence and adequacy of the occupational risk assessment, assess the preventive measures against high temperatures and the risk of thermal stress, and verify the availability of hygienic facilities, electrical supply, climate control, and adequate lighting.
The complaint calls for the urgent processing of the case, considering that the situation may severely compromise the health of workers during periods of high temperatures. If the violations are confirmed, the company GS24 could face administrative sanctions and the obligation to adopt immediate corrective measures.
This case highlights the precarious conditions under which many security guards operate in the province of Seville, a group that often works in isolated facilities with limited resources. The action of the Labour Inspectorate will be key to determining whether workers' rights have been violated and to demanding the necessary improvements.
