The municipal government assures that 15 of the 18 buildings are already completed and that the investment exceeds three million euros. The Urban Planning delegate responds to criticisms from the PSOE, which denounces a 'halt' in the project.

The Urban Planning delegate of the Seville City Council, Juan de la Rosa, defended on Monday the municipal management in the rehabilitation of 144 homes in the Los Pajaritos neighbourhood. According to him, the works began in December 2023 and 15 of the 18 buildings are already fully completed. The remaining three buildings and the urbanisation works are currently underway, with an expected completion by the end of July 2026.

The total investment amounts to over three million euros, of which nearly two million come from municipal funds. The actions include the comprehensive renovation of the buildings, the installation of elevators, and the reurbanisation of the surrounding area. De la Rosa emphasised that the project presents a "special technical and social complexity", as the buildings are permanently inhabited, which requires coordinating the works with temporary relocations and moves.

PSOE's criticisms and the local government's response

The delegate's statements come after the PSOE denounced a "halt" in the comprehensive rehabilitation project of 160 homes in Los Pajaritos-Nazaret. The socialists claim that the works will be delayed until at least mid-2028, when they were supposed to have finished by 30 June. However, De la Rosa replied that the agreement for this action was signed in October 2021 by the previous socialist government, but "was not able to carry it out".

"Once again, the PSOE is lying to the citizens, as it was José Luis Sanz's government that initiated the building permit in August 2023," the delegate stated. According to his data, 120 of the 144 homes planned have already been executed. The project also includes the reurbanisation of Calle Cigüeña and the square located between Calle Cigüeña, Cruz del Sur, and Gorrión, covering an area of about 1,900 square metres.

Transformation of the environment and aid for elevators

In addition to the rehabilitation of the homes, the City Council has opened a call for aid so that the communities of neighbours on Calle Cigüeña can install elevators. The allocated budget is 1.9 million euros, to be distributed among all applications that meet the requirements. The urbanisation works include replacing sodium vapour lighting with LED lights, burying installations, new trees, and a more permeable pavement in the pedestrian sections towards Calle Jilguero and Golondrina.

A zone for inclusive children's play, calisthenics elements, large trees, and an accessible pedestrian pathway will be created in the square. The Caños de Carmona, protected by the PGOU, will be enhanced with new lighting and the removal of parking in its surroundings, as well as the restoration of the monument. "We are not only going to rehabilitate the homes: we are going to transform the entire Calle Cigüeña, with new LED lighting, more trees, and a square designed for the enjoyment of the neighbours," concluded De la Rosa.

For the residents of the neighbourhood, these works will represent a significant improvement in their quality of life, with renovated homes, more accessible public spaces, and greater energy efficiency. The estimated timeline for the complete finalisation of all actions is the end of July 2026, although the communities of neighbours interested in the aid for elevators must submit their applications before the budget runs out.
