Seville City Council has delivered 138 new protected rental homes in the Palmas Altas neighbourhood, as part of the 'Residencial Puerta Real' project. The keys are now in the hands of the awarded families.
The 'Residencial Puerta Real' development, located in the Sevilla neighbourhood of Palmas Altas, has involved an investment of 26.7 million euros, of which Seville City Council has contributed 13,134,291.80 euros. The 138 homes are being delivered under an affordable rental scheme, with prices ranging from 565 to 665 euros per month, including parking and storage.
Of the 138 homes, eight are adapted for people with reduced mobility. The complex also includes 146 parking spaces and common areas featuring a swimming pool, children's play areas, a calisthenics area, and a multipurpose room. According to municipal sources, behind each key handed over is "a life project that begins today."
Institutional Collaboration and Energy Efficiency
The project is the result of collaboration between Seville City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and the central government. The mayor, José Luis Sanz, highlighted that "institutional collaboration allows for the acceleration of the construction of protected housing." In the last three years, the municipal government has invested over 400 million euros in housing.
The buildings of Puerta Real incorporate aerothermal energy for sanitary hot water, photovoltaic panels, and pre-installation of climate control systems. They hold the highest energy rating, A/A, which reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Additionally, industrialised bathrooms and prefabricated systems have been used to optimise construction times.
Seven Developments Delivered in Three Years
With Puerta Real, there are now seven VPO developments delivered by Sanz's government: Sol, Hacienda el Rosario, La Maria, La Salle, Puerta Jerez, Pítamo Entreolivos, and this latest one. In total, 642 new protected homes have reached Sevilla families in a short period, placing Seville "at the forefront of Spanish cities making the greatest effort in affordable housing," according to the City Council.
For the residents of Palmas Altas, this development represents an opportunity to access quality housing at a reasonable price, in a well-connected area with nearby services. The awarded families can now start moving in and enjoy their new home.
