Prado de San Sebastián hosts the first phase of the City of Children from today, a children's park costing €921,196 that recreates the Fair Walkway and Holy Week. The space includes areas adapted for children with disabilities.

The City of Children is now a reality in Seville. The City Council inaugurated this Monday the first phase of the project, a themed children's park located in Prado de San Sebastián that pays tribute to two of the city's hallmarks: the April Fair and Holy Week. The investment amounts to €921,196.11.

The design of the space is structured into three distinct environments. The central element is a large structure that reproduces the historic Fair Walkway, which connected San Fernando Street with the entrance to the fairground between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A way for the little ones to play while learning about local history.

A walkway to play and climb

The replica of the walkway is not just a simple decoration. It has been conceived as a playful element in itself, with elevated play areas, ground-level zones, and paths that connect different parts of the park. Children can climb, slide, and explore in an environment that evokes the festive atmosphere of Seville.

The space also includes play areas adapted for children with different abilities, aiming to ensure that no child is left out. Accessibility has been a priority in the design, according to municipal sources.

More shade and more greenery

The project is not limited to play areas. 16 hibiscus specimens have been planted that, when grown, will provide natural shade during the hottest months. A detail that parents will appreciate when temperatures exceed 40 degrees, something increasingly common in the city.

This first phase is part of a plan to renovate parks and gardens that the City Council has launched with a total investment of €25.9 million. The idea is for the City of Children to be just the beginning of a broader transformation of public spaces in Seville.

Residents of Prado de San Sebastián and nearby neighborhoods such as El Porvenir or Santa Cruz now have a new reason to go out for a walk. The park is open from today and is expected to become a meeting point for families from all over the city. Who knows, over time, the kids might end up calling it the City of Adults, given how much parents enjoy sitting and watching them play. However, with the shade of the newly planted hibiscus, it will still take a couple of years to fully enjoy it.
