The works, which began on June 8, have a budget of €597,094 and a four-month timeline. They are being carried out in two phases to minimise inconvenience to residents.
The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, supervised the renewal works of the supply and sanitation networks on Ciudad de Ronda street and the perpendicular streets Infante Don Carlos de Borbón and Infanta Luisa de Orleans, in the Prado de San Sebastián, Southern district, this Wednesday. The works, which started on June 8, have a four-month execution period and a budget of €597,094.
According to the Seville City Council, the work is being carried out without interrupting the supply to residents thanks to the installation of auxiliary networks. Sanz highlighted that these works "represent a firm commitment to modernising infrastructures that have not been renewed for decades, and will translate into a real and tangible improvement in the quality of service for the residents of Prado de San Sebastián."
The intervention includes the replacement of all valves, connections, and other necessary equipment for the proper functioning of the new supply network, as well as the inspection wells, drains, and connections of the new sanitation network. This aims for a comprehensive improvement of the service in the area.
Two Phases to Reduce Inconvenience
To minimise the impact on the daily lives of residents, the work has been divided into two phases. The first, which is already underway, has required the complete closure of traffic on Ciudad de Ronda street, while the streets Infante Don Carlos de Borbón and Infanta Luisa de Orleans remain open. In the second phase, the supply network will be installed on these last two streets, which will consequently close to traffic, while Ciudad de Ronda will be open to vehicle passage.
Throughout the process, pedestrian traffic has been ensured by installing walkways for access to the entrances of homes and businesses in the area. The Mayor reminded that "the municipal government continues to work to ensure that necessary works in the city are carried out with maximum guarantees and with the least possible impact on the daily lives of residents and merchants in the area."
Over €1.6 Million in the Prado Area
These works add to other initiatives promoted by José Luis Sanz's government in the last year in the Prado de San Sebastián area, with a total investment of €1,618,290. Among them, the Ciudad de los Niños stands out, the new playground whose first phase has already been completed and which involved an investment of €921,196.11. This new play area, covering 1,164 square metres, is themed around the festive identity of Seville, with three areas dedicated to the old Fair Walkway, the fair booths, and Holy Week.
The central element is a structure inspired by the historic Fair Walkway, which was the entrance to the April Fair between 1896 and 1921, measuring up to 34 by 34 metres and 15 metres high. The park includes elevated play, ground-level play, accessible pathways, and spaces for different ages, in addition to planting 16 hibiscus specimens for natural shade. It is planned for Ciudad de los Niños to have three more phases to complete the transformation of this children's area.
Furthermore, at the request of residents, the City Council incorporated new streets around Avenida de Portugal and Diego de Riaño into the Surface Parking Management Service (GES) last January. The streets included in the blue zone are: Avenida de Portugal (from Borbolla to Diego de Riaño), Avenida de la Borbolla (from Carlos V to Portugal), Diego de Riaño (from Portugal to Carlos V), Ciudad de Ronda (from Portugal to Carlos V), Infante Carlos de Borbón (from Diego de Riaño to Ciudad de Ronda), and Infanta Luisa de Orleans (from Diego de Riaño to Ciudad de Ronda).
Additionally, the City Council invested €100,000 in the complete renovation of the sidewalks on Fernando Villalón, Antonio Cortés Lladó streets, and a section of Alfonso de Cossío, key arteries between the Porvenir, Huerta de la Salud, and San Bernardo neighbourhoods. These works have improved the safety and accessibility of pedestrian routes, which had sidewalks decades old and numerous defects. In recent days, road safety has also been restored on Avenida de Carlos V with new resurfacing.
The works in Ciudad de Ronda and the adjacent streets are progressing according to the planned schedule, with completion expected in October. Residents and merchants in the area should stay alert to traffic closures that will occur depending on the phase of the work.
