The 24th edition of the Summer Courses at Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) in Carmona begins next Monday, July 6, with a new week of training activities. Five courses will address highly relevant topics from a scientific, educational and social perspective, as reported by the university itself.
The offerings include applied genetic research in medicine to strategies for understanding behaviour disorders in the classroom. Sustainable urban development, bilingual upbringing, and the role of animals in health and well-being will also be covered.
Genetics and Biomedicine: Experimental Models
The course 'Genetic Models in Research, from Bacteria to Mouse. 2nd Edition' will be held from July 6 to 17 in person. It is directed by CSIC researcher Sol Sotillos Martín, along with technicians Laura Tomás Gallardo and Ana Fernández Miñán, both from UPO-CSIC.
The program offers a practical approach to the main experimental models used in biomedical research. Participants will analyse how bacteria, yeasts, fish, or mice help to understand the development of human diseases and the advancement of personalised medicine.
Behaviour Disorders and Emotional Education
From July 6 to 10, in a simultaneous teaching format, the course 'Behaviour Disorders in the Classroom from Third Generation Approaches. 6th Edition' will be taught. The direction is led by psychologist, anthropologist, and educator Alma Serra González.

The program will analyse the new planning instruments promoted by the Spanish Urban Agenda and the Integrated Action Plans. Experience exchange between administrations, professionals, and researchers will be encouraged to promote more sustainable and integrated territorial development.
Bilingual Upbringing and Human-Animal Bond
From July 6 to 8, online, the workshop 'English at Home: Bilingual Upbringing Without Being a Native' will be developed. It is led by Adrián Granados Navarro, a professor in the Department of Philology and Translation at UPO.
The course offers practical strategies for families to incorporate English naturally into daily life. It debunks myths about bilingualism in children and shows how daily interaction is the most effective tool for learning a second language.
On July 6 and 7, in a simultaneous teaching format, 'Transformative Bonds: The Impact of Animals on Our Health and Well-Being' will be taught. It is directed by Javier López-Cepero Borrego, a professor at the University of Seville and a member of the Habier Association.
The training delves into the scientific evidence regarding the human-animal bond. It analyses the role of animal-assisted interventions in areas such as education, health, social services, and emotional well-being.
