The Velá del Camino Viejo de Tomares reaches its 40th edition and will be held from July 31 to August 2 in José Calado Payán Park, featuring music, children's games, and free paella.
Four decades after its inception, the Velá del Camino Viejo de Tomares has established itself as one of the unmissable summer events in Aljarafe. Organised by the Town Hall of Tomares and the 'La Cruz' Neighbourhood Association, this 2026 edition promises three days of community togetherness in José Calado Payán Park, with a programme ranging from concerts to activities for the little ones.
A Musical Programme for All Tastes
The event will kick off on Friday, July 31 with performances by Trío Punto y Aparte at 21:30, followed by Serva Labari at 23:30 and DJ Salas at 00:30. On Saturday, August 1, Trío Punto y Aparte will perform again at 21:30 and 00:30, while Peterpunk & the Diablo Band will take the stage at 23:00.
For live music lovers, the velá offers a mix of styles ranging from pop-rock to the most danceable covers. The organisers have aimed to maintain a balance between local bands and established acts, something that has characterised this festival throughout its 40 years of history.
Family Sunday with Free Paella and Magic
The day of Sunday, August 2 will be dedicated to families. From 12:00, there will be children's games and a foam cannon, and at 15:30, free paella will be served to all attendees. In the afternoon, magician Juan Soto will perform at 21:00, followed by the awards ceremony at 22:00 and the musical closing by Trío Punto y Aparte.
The park will thus become an intergenerational meeting point where grandparents, parents, and children share a table and a cloth. The paella, which has become a classic of the evening, is provided by the organisation and is distributed until supplies run out.
Four Decades of Neighbourhood Tradition
The Velá del Camino Viejo was born in 1986 with the help of the 'La Cruz' Neighbourhood Association, which remains the soul of the festival. Four decades later, the celebration retains its essence: bringing together the residents of Tomares in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. The support of the Town Hall of Tomares has been key to its continuity, providing infrastructure and promotion.
For the people of Tomares, this velá is much more than a summer event: it is a date with the collective memory of the municipality. Many who attended as children now bring their own children, creating a generational bond that few popular festivals manage to maintain.
Entry is free and open during the three days. The Town Hall recommends arriving early to find parking in the designated areas around the park. As always, a high turnout of residents and visitors from nearby Aljarafe towns is expected.
With this edition, Tomares reaffirms its commitment to neighbourhood festivals as a means of social cohesion. The Velá del Camino Viejo demonstrates that, with community will and institutional support, traditions can be renewed without losing their essence.
