Tomares bids farewell to August with the Velá del Camino Viejo, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this weekend with music, magic, and family activities.
The Sevillian town of Tomares held its traditional Velá del Camino Viejo this weekend, from July 31 to August 2, an event that has reached its 40th anniversary this year. Organised by the Tomares Town Hall and the 'La Cruz' Neighbourhood Association, the José Calado Payán Park was filled with locals and visitors for three days of community spirit.
The mayor of Tomares, José María Soriano, presented the awards for this edition's competitions on Sunday night. In his statements, he highlighted the atmosphere:
“Yesterday we concluded the Velá del Camino Viejo with the award ceremony. I was delighted to see so many neighbours enjoying the magnificent atmosphere in this neighbourhood. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who contributed to make it a success once again.”The mayor was accompanied by the special delegate for Major Festivals, María Toledo, and the president of the neighbourhood association.
The programme kicked off on Friday with performances by the Trío Punto y Aparte, Serva Labari, and DJ Salas. Saturday continued with Trío Punto y Aparte and Peterpunk & the Diablo Band, who once again entertained the park. Sunday began with children's games, a foam cannon, and a free paella, followed by a magic show by Juan Soto El Mago.
The evening culminated with the presentation of medals and the final performance by Trío Punto y Aparte, which wrapped up a very special edition. The Velá del Camino Viejo thus keeps alive the spirit of a festival that, four decades later, continues to bring together several generations of neighbours, thanks to the work of the association and the support of the Town Hall.
