The XXIV Bienal de Flamenco in Seville, from September 9 to October 3, will feature 21 artists presenting their own shows for the first time, including singing, guitar and dance.
The most important flamenco event in the world, the Bienal de Sevilla, has revealed the names of the 21 artists who will take the spotlight in its upcoming edition. Between September 9 and October 3, these debutants will take to stages such as the Teatro Alameda, the Espacio Turina, or the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, with proposals ranging from the most orthodox singing to instrumental fusions.
Eight voices making their stage debut
Singing is the main focus of this batch of debutants. Ángeles Toledano will kick things off on September 12 at the Teatro Alameda with 'La misma sangre del cuerpo'. She will be followed by Juanelo de Los Palacios on September 18 at the Hotel Triana, with a tribute to the Peña El Pozo de las Penas.
The gaditana Encarna Anillo will close the matinee cycle at the Iglesia San Luis de los Franceses with 'Camino de flores'. On September 27, Juan de Mairena, Lidia Hernández, and Macarena de la Torre will join forces in 'Fue tu querer', a show that champions sevillanas as a meeting space.
The singer José de los Camarones will arrive at the Teatro Alameda on September 30 with 'Los flamencos no van a la barbería', accompanied by Capullo de Jerez. And Rocío Luna will close the singing section at the Teatro de la Maestranza with 'Perlas a millares', sharing the bill with the legend Carmen Linares.
The guitar and dance are also renewed
In the instrumental chapter, the granadino José Fermín Fernández will premiere 'Guitarra desnuda' on September 13 at the Espacio Turina. The utrerana María Marín will debut on the 19th with 'Las tres Marías', and the alicantino Alejandro Hurtado will present 'Devenir de la guitarra' on the 20th at San Luis de los Franceses.
The American saxophonist Tim Ries will join with 'Tunisia' on September 21 at the Lope de Vega, alongside the sevillano guitarist Rafael Riqueni. And the brothers Juan and Bernardo Parrilla will close the instrumental cycle on October 1 at the Teatro Alameda with 'Herencia', sharing the stage with Diego Carrasco.
In dance, the brothers Hugo and Diego Aguilar will kick things off on September 4 at the Monasterio de San Jerónimo with 'Cuestión de tiempo'. Bernardo Miranda will debut as a soloist on September 6 at the Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares, as part of the tribute to Fosforito. And Claudia 'La Debla' will participate in two proposals: on September 10 at the grand gala of the Maestranza, alongside the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, and on September 27 in another performance.
A commitment to the future of flamenco
The delegate for Tourism and Culture, Angie Moreno, has emphasized that the Bienal "is not only the world's largest showcase for flamenco, but also the place where great future careers are born." For the people of Seville, this edition is a unique opportunity to see live those who will be the next figures of the genre, in such emblematic spaces as the Maestranza or the Teatro Alameda, with prices ranging from 15 to 40 euros.
The festival director, Luis Ybarra, has highlighted that the Bienal "not only has children, but also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a mix of generations." Many of these debutants have already graced the festival's stages as accompanists, but now they are taking the reins of their own shows.
Tickets are already on sale on the official Bienal website and at the theatre box offices. An unmissable event for flamenco lovers, who will be able to enjoy 72 performances and 52 new productions in what promises to be a historic edition.
