The cultural programme Noctaíra in Alcalá de Guadaíra incorporates a new theatre cycle at the Castle featuring local groups as a prelude to the Night of San Miguel.
The summer cultural and tourist programme Noctaíra, promoted by the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council, adds a new theatre cycle at the Castle of Alcalá this September, serving as a prelude to the traditional Night of San Miguel. The performances, with free admission until full capacity is reached, will begin this Thursday 3rd September at 21:30 hours.
The delegate for Culture and Tourism, Christopher Rivas, has presented the theatrical events for the month and highlighted that the first two proposals are led by local theatre groups, Teatro Comunitario Castillo de Alcalá and Teatro para Todos, which have demonstrated their talent and versatility, as well as generating cultural and social cohesion proposals for all audiences.
“Theatre is an indispensable pillar of Noctaíra and each year it demonstrates its success in participation, both in the children's sessions at La Harinera and in those aimed at an adult audience in the fortress. Furthermore, the performing arts have held great citizen interest for many decades, not only as an audience but also as creators, protagonists, directors, and organisers of groups that in many cases have transitioned from hobby to professional status and are part of Alcalá's identity,” argued Rivas.
The first performance, this Thursday 3rd September, will be ‘Somos Teatro’, by the company Teatro Comunitario Castillo de Alcalá, directed by Belén Cobos. The play, which will be performed at 21:30 hours, features a gallery of quirky characters seeking their big opportunity while clinging to a dream in a crumbling theatre. It is both a tribute and a satire of the world of entertainment and those who inhabit it, highlighting the spotlight's glare and the shadows of precariousness and neglect. The cast includes Mª José Calvino, Luisa Cruz, Pepe Cruz, Rosario Flores, Loli Gordillo, Rosario Pérez, Alicia Romero, Lola Santos, Conchi Silva, and Ana Vargas.
The following day, Friday 4th September at 21:30 hours, ‘Ellas’, a play by TPT Pavis Revolution Teatro para Todos, will take the stage, proposing a night of theatre, memory, and emotion at the Castle. The piece encompasses four women, four names, and four stories that deserve to be remembered, giving voice to women silenced and forgotten by history who fought, wrote, fled, or resisted. Teatro Para Todos, founded in 2019, is committed to social transformation through the performing arts and uses theatre as an educational tool to highlight social issues.
The free programming of Noctaíra will continue at the Castle on the following days 10th September with ‘Bohemia en Sevilla’ and on 11th September with ‘El convite de boda’. The grand finale will be the traditional Night of San Miguel on 12th September, an event with free and open participation that takes place in the neighbourhood of the same name on the slopes of the Castle, featuring a programme that blends tradition and avant-garde: flamenco, dance, games, children's storytelling, humour, and a wide range of music.
