The programme includes an escape room at La Harinera, night tours of the mills, and bread workshops every Friday and Saturday in October. Online reservations will be published gradually starting Monday, October 5.
The celebration of World Bread Day, commemorated on October 16, has kicked off in Alcalá de Guadaíra with a large turnout on its first weekend. The programme, organised by the Tourism delegation alongside the Bakers' Association of Alcalá, Fica, and the production company Engranajes Culturales, will run every Friday and Saturday in October at venues such as La Harinera, the Molino del Algarrobo, and Oromana Park.
Among this year's new features is an escape room, which joins traditional activities: workshops, theatrical visits, treasure hunts, night tours, kayaking routes, a solidarity bread sale, and games related to bread. The Tourism delegate, Christopher Rivas, has encouraged citizens to participate every weekend and thanked the work of associations, professionals, and entities, with special mention to the Bakers' Association of Alcalá for their involvement.
"Online reservations for the activities will be published gradually as follows. For the weekend of October 10 starting tomorrow, Monday 5 at 12:00 hours. For the week of October 17 starting Tuesday, October 13 at 12:00 hours, and for the weekend of October 24 starting October 19 at 12:00 hours," he concluded.
The night tours of the mills, under the title “Under the Light of the Lanterns”, will take place on Fridays 2, 9, 16, and 23 and Saturdays 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 19:30 hours. The tour reveals the industrial heritage along the river and allows visitors to learn about the mills of San Juan, Benarosa, and Oromana. Additionally, the Harinera del Guadaíra will open its doors on 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 11:00 to 13:30 hours.
The Bread Storytellers and Bread Games will take place on those same days and times, with sessions every 30 minutes at La Harinera. The escape room “Treasure Hunt at La Harinera” will offer a 90-minute experience where participants must solve puzzles and decipher codes in this historic space; it will be held on 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 20:00 hours.
The Molino del Algarrobo will host mini theatrical visits where an old baker will narrate the history of bread-making in Alcalá, from 11:00 to 13:15 hours, every 15 minutes. There will also be mini bread workshops led by the Bakers' Association to learn how to make a loaf and discover its history, from 11:00 to 13:30 hours every 30 minutes, alongside a solidarity bread sale in support of the Prolaya Association.
Kayaking routes and mill treasure hunts, organised by Riverízate, will cost 5 euros and can be reserved on the company's website. During the Saturdays, there will be a refreshment service at La Harinera.
