Hundreds of locals participate in the tenth edition of the Night of San Miguel, filling the Castle and the Sanctuary of the Eagle with music, dance, theatre, and flamenco.
The tenth edition of the Night of San Miguel has transformed the Castle and the surroundings of the Sanctuary of the Eagle in Alcalá de Guadaíra into a vibrant cultural space. Hundreds of residents of Alcalá of all ages took part this Saturday in a programme that combined heritage, music, dance, theatre, and flamenco, as a conclusion to the municipal initiative Noctaíra.
The delegate for Culture, Heritage, and Tourism, Christopher Rivas, emphasised the special nature of this edition. He stated, "In its tenth anniversary, we have celebrated in a different way, bringing the programme to iconic spaces such as the esplanade of the Eagle and the interior of the Castle, uniting all spaces with special lighting that visitors could enjoy."
The special lighting of the Castle was one of the main attractions, enhancing the monumental beauty of spaces such as the Puerta Real and the front and back of the Sanctuary of the Eagle, which became unique stages for performances. The light was thus integrated into the programme itself, creating an atmosphere that highlighted the historical heritage from a new perspective.
One of the most sought-after activities was the night guided tours of the Castle and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Eagle. Several hundred visitors passed through these spaces, which necessitated an increase in the number of groups and sessions due to the high turnout. Attendees were able to view the interior of the sanctuary of the patroness on a tour that combined history, art, and devotion.
The night kicked off with two highly appealing proposals: on the esplanade of the Eagle, Lemon Shaker offered a traditional jazz show, while families enjoyed Almatwins and their itinerant show Magallanes in the Castle.
Another highly anticipated event was The Firebird, by the Grand'Allegro Dance School, an entity that will soon receive the City of Alcalá Award, which gathered hundreds of people in the square of the Sanctuary of the Eagle. Also noteworthy was the immersive sound experience Bioma, by Elena Córdoba, Novia Pagana, inspired by the Oromana Park and the Guadaíra River, in the Courtyard of the Sima, followed by music from Radio Sonora featuring songs by Radio Futura and Juan Perro in the apse of the Sanctuary.
Flamenco from Alcalá took centre stage with Vente pal Arrabal, from the Flamenco Peña El Arrabal and La Cueva de María. The dedication of the artists moved the audience and reminded everyone that flamenco is still alive in the city, especially in the neighbourhood that saw the birth of Joaquín el de la Paula.
Rivas thanked the involvement of municipal services, artists, collaborating businesses, and residents, and highlighted the reception of an event "already marked on the calendar as a celebration of the municipality's identity, uniting past, present, and future." For the delegate, this edition demonstrates "the pride that Alcalá residents feel for their history and identity and the tourism opportunities we must seize."
The Night of San Miguel marks the conclusion of the summer cultural and tourism programme Noctaíra, which reaches its tenth edition. The positive response from the public, according to the City Council, encourages continued efforts in this direction for future events.
