The procession set off from the Parish of the Immaculate Conception towards the Boticaria Pines, with the floral offering from Mayor Ana Isabel Jiménez being one of the central moments of the day.
The pilgrimage of San Mateo once again filled the streets of Alcalá de Guadaíra this Sunday with carts, oxen, horses, and pilgrims. The event, which has been celebrated for over 40 years, brought together hundreds of locals in a procession that departed from the Parish of the Immaculate Conception.
The day began at 8:30 AM with the Pilgrims' Mass. Afterwards, the procession made its way through the city centre with stops at the Residencia la Milagrosa and the Town Hall, before heading into the surroundings of Oromana to the Field of Pilgrimage, in the Boticaria Pines, where the gathering took place.
The mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, made the floral offering to the patron saint and was accompanied by the delegate for Major Festivals, Rocío Bastida, and other representatives of the municipal corporation.
“The work of the Brotherhood to enhance traditions, striving for excellence in the details,” highlighted Jiménez.
The mayor also congratulated the Senior Brother, Paco Núñez, and all the brothers for maintaining the worship and cultural legacies surrounding the figure of the patron saint. She noted that this event continues to attract Alcalá residents who use the date as a reference to enjoy time with friends and family in the best natural setting of the province.
The Town Hall of Alcalá de Guadaíra, along with the Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías and the Brotherhood of San Mateo, coordinates the Glories Plan each year, which regulates traffic, security, street cleaning, and other aspects of the processions.
The pilgrimage is part of the September worship programme. This past Friday, the XXXIV Proclamation of San Mateo was held by Antonio María Lebreros Ramírez at the Gutiérrez Theatre.
The events will continue in the coming days at the parish with the solemn Triduum on 17, 18, and 19 September at 8:30 PM, and the Main Function of the Institute on Sunday 20 September at 11 AM. On Monday 21 September, a local holiday, the image of the patron saint will process through the streets of Alcalá starting at 8 PM to conclude the worship.
