The Town Hall of Tomares has welcomed the athletes from the Municipal Sports Schools of Athletics, Fencing, Artistic Skating, and Tennis, who have achieved outstanding results this season 2025-2026.
The mayor of Tomares, José María Soriano, presided over an emotional event on Tuesday, June 30, in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall to recognise the achievements of the young athletes from the Municipal Sports Schools (EDM). Accompanied by the Sports Delegate, Antonio Parrilla, and the families of the honorees, Soriano highlighted the "incredible level" reached by the students in the disciplines of Athletics, Fencing, Artistic Skating, and Tennis.
Successes in athletics: from national championships to European events
The EDM of Athletics has been one of the most decorated. Sergio López Molina achieved the qualifying mark for the Under-18 European Championship in triple jump and became the Under-18 indoor national runner-up. Sergio Rodríguez Vázquez-Armero was the Under-23 indoor national runner-up and fourth in the absolute category, also in triple jump. Carlos Dorado López won silver in the 100 meters at the Under-20 outdoor National Championship. These athletes, along with others such as Estrella Díaz Calleja, Noa García Espartero, Irene Morales Rodríguez, Marco Morales Rodríguez, Iván Lobato Ramos, and Paula Barra Romero, have put the name of Tomares at the top of the national scene.
The coaches Laura Real Cobo and Esperanza López Moya, both linked to the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, along with Almudena Saborido and Alejandro Ramírez, have been key figures in these results. For the residents of Tomares, having a talent pool of this level is a source of pride and an incentive for more young people to join grassroots sports.
Artistic skating and tennis: Andalusian and national medals
In artistic skating, Carla Mateo won bronze at the Andalusian SOLO Dance Championship in the national category, while Chloe Pacheco and Helena Pizarra achieved gold in the regional categories of children and youth, respectively. Julia Abad added a silver in the children’s category. Coaches Cristina Oria and Irene Ortega have guided these skating talents.
In tennis, the male alevín team of the EDM finished third in the Andalusian Championship. Players Daniel Estefani Izquierdo, Pablo Izquierdo Megías, Pablo García Chaparro, and Fernando Morera Pérez, led by Santiago López Gallego, demonstrated their talent in the regional competition.
Fencing: a promising young talent with national projection
In fencing, Elliot Inger Armenta has been the great revelation. Sixth in the Cadet National Championship, he became the Senior Andalusian champion and junior runner-up, in addition to winning bronze in the regional cadet category. His five medals in the Andalusian Cups (three golds and two bronzes) reflect a bright future. Alejandro Sánchez de la Rosa has also contributed to the school's accolades.
Mayor Soriano wanted to thank everyone for their efforts: "We have welcomed the Municipal Sports Schools to celebrate an incredible season with them. Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches for the results and for setting the bar so high!" The event concluded with a special recognition of the families who support these young talents day by day.
For the residents of Tomares, these achievements are not only a reason for celebration but also reinforce the municipality's commitment to grassroots sports. The municipal schools, which offer training for free or at reduced prices, are an example of how public investment can generate champions. The next important event will be the outdoor National Championship, where several athletes from Tomares will seek new medals.
