On Wednesday, August 12, Palomares del Río will become one of the best locations in the province of Seville to observe a partial solar eclipse. The phenomenon will reach an obscuration of approximately 95% of the solar disc in the area, according to the municipality's City Council.
The Sun will be very low on the horizon, at about 7 degrees above, so it will be essential to choose a location with good visibility towards the west. Among the studied locations, the area of Hacienda de Regla street presents the best conditions to follow the eclipse without obstacles.
The eclipse will begin at 19:40 hours, when the Moon starts to obscure the Sun. The moment of maximum obscuration will occur at 20:38 hours, with nearly 95% of the solar disc covered. The phenomenon will continue until shortly after 21:00 hours, when the obscuration will gradually decrease until it disappears.
The City Council of Palomares del Río warns of the importance of protecting one's eyesight at all times. Even though the Sun is nearly obscured, one should not look directly at the eclipse without proper protection. It is essential to use specific eclipse viewing glasses that are certified and meet safety regulations.
Conventional sunglasses are not sufficient. Neither are X-rays, homemade filters, or other improvised methods. Incorrect observation can cause serious and permanent eye injuries, warn the City Council.
Weather conditions and the possible presence of clouds could hinder observation, so it will be necessary to pay attention to the forecast for that day. The City Council encourages residents to enjoy the phenomenon responsibly and take all necessary precautions.
