The City Council of La Rinconada and the Flamenco Cultural Peña El Búcaro present 'Dame el Búcaro', a collective exhibition featuring around fifty pieces of ceramics transformed by contemporary artists. It will be open for visits at the Hacienda Santa Cruz until September 20.
The courtyard of the Hacienda Santa Cruz has been hosting the exhibition 'Dame el Búcaro' since this week, a project driven by the Culture department of the City Council of La Rinconada and the Flamenco Cultural Peña El Búcaro, which brings together 50 ceramic búcaros intervened by as many contemporary artists. The pieces, created from flamenco lyrics, can be seen until September 20.
The exhibition is part of the programming for the 43rd Festival of Flamenco Singing El Búcaro and is linked to the municipality's candidacy for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the Literature category. With this initiative, the traditional clay búcaro becomes a medium for contemporary creation and establishes a dialogue between flamenco, literature, visual arts, and ceramics.
Each artist has transformed the same object into a unique piece, using techniques such as painting, sculpture, collage, ceramics, illustration, or mixed techniques. A jury has also selected the winning work, 'Ojos verdes', by Marina Ortiz, which will be the official image of the festival, taking place on September 18.
Another eleven pieces have been chosen to be associated with the artists on the El Búcaro poster. They are signed by Myriam García Barrera (Dame limones), Ricardo Gil (Bulerías a Joselito), Agustín Israel (Soleares por Villalón), Gonzalo Conradi (Yo digo que sí), Ana Rosa López (Todo es de color), Maku Hidalgo (Como el agua), Victoria Gómez de Lara (Dame la libertad), Brie Santos (Mi estrella blanca), Alberto Bermúdez (Un compromiso / Toda una vida), Víctor Terán (Y un clavel) and Carmen Real (No puedo quitar mis ojos de ti).
The First Deputy Mayor and Culture delegate, Raquel Vega, inaugurated the exhibition accompanied by the board of the peña and the participating artists. Vega defended the project as a new space for collaboration between visual arts and flamenco that incorporates an unprecedented proposal into the festival's programming.
“With this project, the City Council and Peña open a new space for collaboration between visual arts and flamenco, incorporating an unprecedented proposal into the festival's programming that turns artistic creation into a tool to strengthen cultural heritage, promote contemporary talent, and bring flamenco to new audiences,” she stated.
The delegate added that the initiative is born with a vocation for continuity and aims to establish itself as an annual event where contemporary art dialogues with flamenco from a place of creative freedom and innovation.
The 43rd Festival of Flamenco Singing El Búcaro will take place on September 18 at 10:00 PM at the Hacienda Santa Cruz. The lineup will be headed by El Pele, alongside Consuelo Haldón, Rubito Hijo, Caracolillo de Cádiz, and Fernando El Goyo, a cantaor linked to the peña. On guitar will be Antonio Carrión, Niño Seve, Manuel Herrera, and Juan Quirós, with Manuel Herrera Hijo as the solo guitarist. The clapping will be provided by Concha Carrión and Ángel Peña, and Carmen Arjona will host a show dedicated to Jafelin Helten from Expoflamenco.
