Joaquín Rica Castillo, Sergio Diego Vela Fenoy and Jorge Acemel Valiente will portray Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar in the La Rinconada Parade on January 5, 2027. The Major Festivals department presented them this Friday.
The delegate for Major Festivals, Rafael Reyes, and the councillor assigned to the department, Silvia Torres, introduced the three individuals who will embody the Three Wise Men in the La Rinconada Parade on January 5, 2027. The chosen ones are Joaquín Rica Castillo (Melchor), Sergio Diego Vela Fenoy (Gaspar) and Jorge Acemel Valiente (Baltasar).
The presentation event served to introduce the three locals who, along with a large procession, will travel through the streets of the municipality distributing sweets and toys to the little ones. The selection of the emissaries is one of the first milestones in the organisation of the Parade, which mobilises hundreds of people in La Rinconada each year.
Rafael Reyes highlighted during the event the connection of the three chosen individuals with the social fabric and local traditions.
“The Parade is one of the most magical and anticipated moments of the year. Having three neighbours so connected to our neighbourhoods, our traditions and our social fabric ensures that the afternoon of January 5 will be filled with excitement, dedication and heart. They have months of preparations ahead of them, for which they will have all our support and the beautiful responsibility of spreading joy in every corner of our locality.”
Joaquín Rica Castillo, aged 43 and a resident of Barriada la Paz, will take on the role of Melchor. He studied at Júpiter school for primary education, completed secondary education at Miguel de Mañara and took a module in Electronics at IES San José. He is a technical engineer in telecommunications, is married and has three children: Raúl, Lola and Luna. His passion for athletics has led him to be a member of the club C.A. Los Niños del Barrio, which has a 20-year history.
Sergio Diego Vela Fenoy, aged 46, will bring Gaspar to life. Born in the municipality, he comes from a working-class family from the old sugar factory and has been working at Mercadona for some time. He is the president of the fair booth ‘El Cortijo de la Amistad’, founded by former workers of the sugar factory, including his father and uncles.
Lastly, Jorge Acemel Valiente, aged 49, will represent Baltasar. Raised in the barrio del Tejar, he is a co-owner of the bar El Fretu alongside his brother Dani, a restaurant business they have managed since 1997. He is married and is the father of two children.
In the coming days, the La Rinconada City Council will reveal more details about these Three Wise Men and the preparations for the Parade, which will take place on the afternoon of January 5, 2027.
