AEMET activates the yellow alert for high temperatures in the Campiña of Seville on Friday, July 17, and extends it to the Sierra Norte on Saturday, with maximums of 38 and 39 degrees respectively.
The thermal respite of recent days is coming to an end. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated new yellow alerts for high temperatures that will affect the province of Seville on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. After a brief pause without alerts, the heat is set to intensify during the central hours of both days.
Friday: the Campiña of Seville first to suffer the heat
On Friday, July 17, the yellow alert will focus on the Campiña of Seville, where a maximum temperature of 38 ºC is expected. The alert will be active between 13:00 and 20:59 hours, with a probability of between 40% and 70%. Municipalities in this area, such as Marchena, Arahal, or Paradas, should take extra precautions during the hottest hours.
AEMET recommends avoiding sun exposure during the central hours of the day, staying hydrated frequently, and paying special attention to the elderly, children, and pets. Thermometers will peak around 16:00 hours, when the heat will be most intense.
Saturday: the alert extends to the Sierra Norte
The situation worsens on Saturday, July 18. AEMET maintains the yellow alert in the Campiña of Seville and extends it to the Sierra Norte of Seville, where 39 ºC maximums are forecasted. In both areas, the alert will again be active from 13:00 to 20:59 hours, with the same probability of between 40% and 70%.
The Sierra Norte, which includes towns like Constantina, Cazalla de la Sierra, or El Pedroso, usually records milder temperatures than the Campiña, but this time it will not escape the extreme heat. Residents of the region should prepare for an especially hot day.
AEMET insists that, although the alert is yellow (low risk), high temperatures can be dangerous to health if precautions are not taken. It is recommended to drink water frequently, wear light clothing, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours.
Unrelenting heat in mid-July
This new heat episode comes after a few days of respite when there were no active alerts. July has been an especially hot month in the province, with several episodes of high temperatures that have forced AEMET to activate alerts in different areas.
For farmers in the Campiña, the heat poses an added challenge during the harvest season. In the Sierra Norte, the risk of wildfires increases with the high temperatures, so maximum caution is advised in the countryside.
Looking ahead to Sunday, forecasts indicate a slight decrease in temperatures, although not reaching cool values. The province of Seville will remain under the influence of typical July heat, with maximums around 35-36 ºC.
