The Town Hall of Morón de la Frontera will play five falsetas by guitarist Paco del Gastor every noon, as part of the 59th Gazpacho Andaluz.
The bells of the Town Hall of Morón de la Frontera, in the province of Seville, have incorporated a new sound closely linked to the flamenco identity of the municipality. Until July 4, every noon, after the chimes at 12:00, five falsetas performed by guitarist Paco del Gastor will be played. This initiative is part of the programming for the 59th Gazpacho Andaluz, the most emblematic flamenco festival in the area, which this year pays tribute to the renowned guitarist from the Sevillian municipality for his artistic career.
Paco del Gastor, born in Morón de la Frontera, is a key figure in contemporary flamenco. His style, which is an heir to the tradition of the great tocaores, has been internationally recognized. The falsetas selected to be played from the municipal bell tower are emblematic pieces from his repertoire, recorded especially for this occasion. The playback system is activated automatically after the traditional twelve o'clock chime, and can be heard throughout the Town Hall square and surrounding streets.
The Gazpacho Andaluz, which has been held for nearly six decades, is one of the oldest flamenco festivals in Spain. In this edition, in addition to the usual concerts and activities, the tribute to Paco del Gastor has been the central focus. The mayor of Morón, Juan Manuel Rodríguez, has highlighted that "it is a pride that the bells of our Town Hall spread the art of a son of the land." The initiative has been well received by locals and tourists, who have stopped to listen to the music in the heart of the urban area.
Similar precedents have occurred in other Andalusian towns, such as Jerez de la Frontera, where the bells of the San Miguel church have rung with bulerías during the Horse Fair. However, the initiative in Morón is pioneering for being carried out from the Town Hall clock and for the duration of the tribute, which will last for six days. The selection of the falsetas has been supervised by the guitarist's family, who have closely collaborated with the Town Hall.
For flamenco lovers, this is a unique opportunity to hear the work of Paco del Gastor in an urban and everyday context. The falsetas will sound at exactly 12:00, and it is recommended to go to the Town Hall Square to enjoy the acoustics of the place. The initiative will conclude on July 4, coinciding with the closing of the festival. Those who cannot attend will be able to follow live broadcasts through the Town Hall's social media channels.
