The PSG midfielder, a two-time European champion, has once again put Los Palacios y Villafranca on the map, the Sevillian municipality of 39,000 inhabitants where he was born and always boasts about.
Fabián Ruiz, 30, has just won his second consecutive Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, an achievement that adds to the Euro 2024 with the Spanish national team. However, the midfielder never forgets his roots: whenever he can, he returns to Los Palacios y Villafranca, the Sevillian town where he was born and raised.
The municipality, located in the south of the province of Seville, has nearly 39,000 inhabitants. Its streets with white facades and wrought iron balconies preserve the Andalusian essence, and its cuisine—based on garden products—is one of its main attractions. Moreover, Los Palacios y Villafranca is the birthplace of footballers: besides Fabián, Jesús Navas and Gavi, both internationals with Spain, were born there.
Fabián's bond with his town is strong. He trained in the Betis youth academy, a club he joined from CD Los Palacios, and only a loan to Elche interrupted his time at the verdiblanco before he made the leap to Europe. In 2018, he signed with Napoli and in 2022 with PSG, where he has experienced his greatest successes. "I am from Los Palacios and I always carry it with pride," he has stated on several occasions.
The municipality has historical roots dating back to Roman times, when the settlement of Saerus existed, with the right to mint coins. Today, its main landmark is the Periurban Park of La Corchuela, an 85-hectare pine forest shared with Dos Hermanas. A place where Fabián often disconnects when he visits his homeland.
The latest Champions, achieved on May 30 against Arsenal in the penalty shootout, has once again brought the spotlight to Los Palacios. The Town Hall has already announced that it is preparing a tribute to the footballer, although no date has been set yet. What is clear is that, for Fabián, the best refuge remains his town.
