The Los Palacios and Villafranca Town Hall is undertaking a comprehensive improvement of the Rafael Curado Tejero Athletics Track, with an investment of 560,000 euros that includes its own lighting and a new artificial grass football field in the central area.
The Los Palacios and Villafranca Town Hall has launched an ambitious reform of the Rafael Curado Tejero Athletics Track, with a total investment exceeding 560,000 euros. The works, which are already underway, include the installation of an autonomous lighting system and the creation of an artificial grass football field within the athletics track ring.
The mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, accompanied by the municipal sports delegate, Chari Parejo, recently visited the site to oversee progress. Valle recalled that this initiative responds to a commitment made to local athletes, given the high number of users who utilise these facilities daily.
The first of the interventions, the installation of the new lighting, is nearing completion. The athletics track previously lacked its own lighting and relied on that of the adjacent football fields, which was insufficient for daily use. This project, funded by the Más Sevilla Plan of the Provincial Council, has an investment of 277,000 euros and also includes improvements to the municipal stadiums Marismas and San Sebastián. In the former, the projectors have been replaced with more powerful ones, while in the latter, four new taller towers have been installed to enhance the quality of lighting.
Simultaneously, the second intervention is being carried out: the installation of an artificial grass football field inside the athletics track. This work, with a budget of 285,000 euros, includes a complete perimeter irrigation system, a supply tank, and six high-reach sprinklers that will cover the entire playing surface. The aim is to provide a new space for football practice that will help alleviate the current municipal stadiums and offer more training hours to local sports clubs.
Juan Manuel Valle highlighted that, adding both interventions, “we are talking about more than 560,000 euros of investment with which we continue to bet on improving the quality of our sports facilities and responding to the hundreds of athletes, as well as the more than a thousand boys and girls who use our football fields daily, in addition to the numerous users of the athletics track.”
The mayor explained that, once the works are completed, the Municipal Sports Delegation will work with the clubs to organise the use of this new sports space, optimising the distribution of schedules and facilitating better training planning.
Regarding timelines, the mayor indicated that the electrical installation will be completed in the coming weeks, while the contracting company expects to finish the execution of the new artificial grass field during September, provided that the works progress without incidents.
Finally, Juan Manuel Valle asked for understanding from users for any temporary inconveniences caused by the works and emphasised that “every construction generates discomfort while it is being carried out, but the result will be a more modern sports facility, with better conditions for athletics practice and a new football field that will significantly increase the usage capacity of the municipal sports complex.”
The Rafael Curado Tejero Athletics Track is one of the most used facilities in the municipality, not only by athletes but also by schoolchildren and citizens exercising outdoors. With this investment, the Town Hall aims to improve training and competition conditions, as well as promote sports practice among residents.
The residents of Los Palacios and Villafranca will be able to enjoy renovated facilities starting next autumn, when the complete works are expected to be finished. The new artificial grass football field, in particular, will provide relief for local clubs, which have until now shared spaces with very tight schedules.
