The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council has awarded the contract to create a 3,092 m² park in the urban centre, with an investment of €660,110 and a timeframe of six months.
The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council has given the green light to the creation of a new park in the city centre. The Local Government Board has approved the awarding of the contract to transform a municipal plot of 3,092 square metres, located on Professor Esteban Palacios Street and Maestro Francisco Rodríguez Cordero Square, into a modern and accessible green space.
The delegate for Natural Monument, Environment and Sustainability, Luisa Campos, explained that the initiative responds to two objectives: to increase the forest area of Alcalá and to improve air quality. "This currently unused plot will become a new green lung for the city," she noted.
The project has a budget of €660,110 and an execution period of six months. Among the planned actions are the creation of adapted pedestrian pathways, resting and leisure areas, and extensive landscaped areas with trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds of various species.
Additionally, high-efficiency LED public lighting and a smart irrigation network will be installed, along with Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) for more efficient management of rainwater. The new park will also feature children's play areas, biosalubrious and calisthenics elements, as well as spaces for pets.
Luisa Campos highlighted that "these works will transform a degraded plot into a park close to the centre, promoting environmental sustainability with an efficient irrigation system." The initiative includes the planting of new tree and shrub species, which will help reduce the heat island effect and improve climate comfort.
There will also be pergolas to create shaded areas, which will encourage the use of the space throughout the year. With this initiative, Alcalá de Guadaíra continues to bet on a greener and more resilient city model, putting public space at the service of the quality of life of residents.
The park will be located in the urban centre, near Professor Esteban Palacios Street, a very busy area. The expectation is that construction will begin in the coming months, once the contract with the awarded company is formalised.
This initiative adds to other municipal efforts to increase green spaces in Alcalá, such as the recent rehabilitation of parks in other neighbourhoods. The goal is to achieve a ratio of square metres of green space per inhabitant that exceeds the standards recommended by the WHO.
Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with the news, as the plot had been unused for years and generated cleanliness issues. With this project, it is hoped to improve the quality of life in the area and promote neighbourly coexistence.
