Jerez writer Jonás Coronilla Marín will present his first novel, An Unreal Stay, on Tuesday, 27 October at the Casa de la Cultura in Lebrija. The event will be open to all citizens.
The Casa de la Cultura in Lebrija will host the presentation of An Unreal Stay, the first novel by Jerez writer Jonás Coronilla Marín, on Tuesday, 27 October, at 19:00 hours. The event will be conducted by Bartolomé Benítez and is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend.
The author has already sold out his first edition, and his work is reaching readers from different countries. In light of this, Coronilla has chosen to promote the book directly, meeting the public from town to town, without waiting for sales to progress on their own.
The novel is structured in two parts and eighteen chapters. It is partly based on the author's stay in Bari, an Italian city, to portray a generation affected by the economic crisis, precariousness, and the frustration of future expectations.
Coronilla began writing it in March 2020, during the lockdown, based on his personal diaries. The text is narrated in the first person, with an ironic tone that blends humour, everyday scenes, and a constant melancholy.
Among the characters are Spanish companions, eccentric neighbours, immigrants, landlords, and students from various backgrounds. With them, the author constructs a portrait of the contradictions of post-2008 Europe.
The work does not idealise the Erasmus programme. It addresses issues of accommodation, coexistence conflicts, and the uncertainty faced by those who leave their environment in search of a better future.
Moreover, the novel advocates for scholarships as a tool for equal opportunities and reflects on the impoverishment of the most vulnerable sectors.
The presentation will be an opportunity to meet the author in person and learn where the story originated. Anyone wishing to attend just needs to go to the Casa de la Cultura on 27 October starting at 19:00 hours.
