The Osuna Town Council has launched five new bus shelters equipped with solar panels and digital screens that provide real-time data on the urban bus. The initiative, funded by European funds, aims to modernise public transport and make it more efficient.
Since this week, residents and visitors of Osuna can check in real time the location of the urban bus and the estimated arrival time at each stop thanks to the installation of five smart shelters. These infrastructures, which are already operational, feature solar panels on their roofs that power LED lighting systems, making them self-sufficient and environmentally friendly.
The municipal delegate for Mobility, Manuel Rodríguez, explained that the new shelters incorporate digital screens that display updated information on routes and waiting times. "It is a very innovative tracking system for our urban bus, which will allow all residents and users to know in real time the location of the vehicle and the estimated arrival time at each stop," he noted.
In addition to the shelters, the project includes the installation of double-sided digital kiosks designed to disseminate information and municipal events, as well as smart totems that provide useful data at the stops. The aim, according to Rodríguez, is to "make the use of public transport more comfortable and straightforward in daily life."
The initiative is part of the Sustainable Tourism Plans in Destinations (PSTD), included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and funded by Next Generation EU Funds. With this investment, the Osuna Town Council aims to take a further step towards a modern, sustainable, and intelligent public transport network.
Users can already benefit from this technology, which not only enhances the travel experience but also contributes to the municipality's energy efficiency. The solar shelters reduce electricity consumption and minimise the carbon footprint, aligning with the sustainability goals set by the European Union.
Manuel Rodríguez emphasised that "this measure benefits our residents, as it facilitates the use of public transport, provides accurate information about the bus's location and waiting time." The forecast is that the system will expand in the future to more stops, depending on demand and the availability of funds.
With this initiative, Osuna joins other municipalities in the province that are betting on the digitalisation of public transport, improving accessibility and service quality. Residents can now better plan their journeys and reduce waiting times, which represents a significant advancement in urban mobility.
