The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council coordinates the second part of the Glorias Plan, which kicks off on August 6 with the Novena to Santa María del Águila and includes processions, pilgrimages, and concerts until October.
The second phase of the Glorias Plan is already underway in Alcalá de Guadaíra. The City Council has held a coordination meeting with all the involved areas to finalise the details of the devotional events that will take place between August and October, with special attention to the festivities of the two patron saints of the city.
Novena and access for reduced mobility
The services in honour of Santa María del Águila Coronada, patron saint of Alcalá, will begin on August 6 with the Novena. As a new feature, people with reduced mobility will be able to access by vehicle to the area in front of the sanctuary, whether by car or public transport, as explained by the delegate for Major Festivals, Rocío Bastida.
The meeting, chaired by Bastida alongside the delegates for Governance, Urban Habitat, and Commerce, as well as the president of the Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías, served to coordinate the preparatory work of cleaning, pruning, painting, and tidying up the surroundings of the Sanctuary. Traffic, security, and cleaning measures necessary for the smooth running of the activities were also discussed.
Two concerts for all audiences
Among the events, there are two preliminary concerts before the major celebrations. The first will be on August 14 at La Plazuela at 22:00, on the eve of the feast of the Virgen del Águila (August 15). The second will take place on September 19 at 21:30, before the feast of San Mateo. Both are free and open to all audiences.
The pilgrimage of San Mateo will be celebrated on September 13, followed by its processional departure on September 21. The cycle will conclude on October 4 with the departure of the Virgen del Rosario de Santiago. The second phase of the Glorias Plan is a continuation of the devotions from May and June, such as the Dulce Nombre, María Auxiliadora, Rocío, or the Corpus.
“Their invaluable work, caring for our traditions to enhance them and turn them into objects of admiration for the people of Alcalá and visitors,” highlighted Rocío Bastida about the work of the brotherhoods.
Comprehensive coordination for smooth proceedings
The meeting included representatives from Urban Habitat, Traffic, Local Police, Firefighters, the municipal company Aira Gestión Ambiental, as well as the National Police Corps and Civil Protection. The routes of processions and pilgrimages, cabling, cleaning, painting, pavement improvements, and tidying of paths or clearing for the San Mateo pilgrimage were discussed.
Bastida thanked all the involved bodies for their effort and collaboration, which benefits the entire community. She also highlighted the work of the brotherhoods throughout the year as part of the culture, heritage, and social work towards the community.
For the residents of Alcalá de Guadaíra, these events represent a reason for gathering and tradition, as well as an attraction for visitors. The expectation is that, as every year, thousands of people will participate in the processions and pilgrimages, which require complex logistics that the City Council is already implementing.
